Why do my chapter view counts not decrease linearly?

I've noticed a strange phenomenon with my viewcounts chapter to chapter. You would think the first chapter would receive the most, with each subsequent chapter receiving steadily less and less views. However, my stats don't line up with this logic.

Going from chapter 9 to 10 we have 200 less views, then somehow we jump 100 views, then 100 more, only to drop back to 200 and then jump back up to 400+! What is going on here? Is this normal?

I have the same thing. I'm pretty sure it's people who see the story on the latest updates page and click the newest chapter instead of the title. The chapter is the only part that's blue text, which a lot of people will register first as a link out of habit. Then they go to your story's main page and potentially start to read properly, but the view is still counted.

This question is becoming a bit repetitive.

There's a huge number of factors that can affect the number of views of each chapter, like rereading or skipping chapters, checking for updates if someone's not using reading lists (notice your 12-14th chapters, with a two-week-long break before the 13th and only a day before the 14th; exactly the same thing with chapters 9 to 11), or many other including those mentioned above. Take those numbers with a grain of salt; they are useful for rough estimates and general trends, but not much more.

I think it might be because people sometimes like to reread chapters. Chapter 44 is my 3rd most viewed chapter, behind only Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, and I suspect that's because I took a 7 week break between posting Chapter 44 and Chapter 45. But even ignoring that, I see a similar trend as you OP. Viewcounts go up and down each chapter without any sort of rhyme or reason. It's just a thing that happens.

Refreshing a tab with it open. I am guilty of this. Rather have some stories in their own tabs than scrolling through a list of 100 stories.

there are people that wait chapters to mount to read...(charged as guilty XD)
i think u can refresh twice before stop counting in your views sometimes someone stop reading your chapter in the midle and come back later to read giving u more views.

Most likely this.

I'm pretty sure I've answered OP's question, just phrased differently, four separate times this year.
I know, and few others did that more than you. I mean, Sailus, Envy, Eldritch, and Corty had answered several questions that were basically the same in the span of 3 months.

I'd just be thankful to have that many views in one chapter alone haha, I couldn't explain why views fluctuate like so.

Wonder if it counts times you open it to edit or look for/respond to comments as individual views? Some chapters may get more comments than others so may get more views even if they are actually read fewer times?
