Whoever's used a piggy bank, why?

You know the things. The hollow ceramic pig figurines you store coins in, and at the end of the period of gathering, you break them. Why would anybody ever use them? It's a safety hazard. Or maybe I don't know how to actually use those things? Just a random thought.

I don't know anyone who breaks it.

There is an opening at the bottom, just use that.

Fyi, mine is more of an empty ornament lol.

I have one I used to store my loose coins - one of those you don't have to smash. It's a paperweight/ornament now.

I had a chicken bank as a kid. Got money from doing chores, and I saved up for like a month... ended up with around 5 buckaroonies.

Never did that shit again.

Never heard of a need to break one. They have opening on the bottom you can open, or the slit is big enough for the coins to fall out when you turn it upside-down and shake.

Why would anybody ever use them? It's a safety hazard.

Why would one not use them? It's fun to toss coins after you do a "bad thing" like swearing around children.
Also, what safety hazard? From whom? Family? They can wound you much worse with words alone than breaking some porcelain piggy.
And if you mean being hurt on potential shards... well... You have a greater chance of choking yourself to death using your own saliva than being wounded by smol piggy, even if broken, as its fragments aren't sharp enough to break your skin unless you really try.

I used a piggy bank like 30 years ago, it was a ceramic pig on one of those oldschool rural mailboxes. Why did i use it? to hoard coins before they went to the bank. Like most it didnt need to be smashed because it had a rubber stopper at the bottom.

These days i just have a plastic jar, and the coins are mainly used for annoying my friends

I had a metal one from the 80s/90s that had a lever to push it in. It was a cool device and helped me to store my money in a way that none of my siblings could steal from(most of the time).

Okay so instead of a piggy bank we use a variation here. İts what we call a "gullak". Made of mud/clay idk what to call it.
The reason I used to love having smaller versions of those was because the feeling of having them filled to the brim without actual knowing how much money was inside it was very fascinating. And the utter satisfaction of breaking it and collecting all the money from the scraps was smth I cant explain. Oh and it also helped in saving money with more discipline yk. Because there was no way out and you wouldn't go banging the pot every week or so.
Telling it again made me want to buy it once more ??

Ai-chan used a kitty penny bank thing. We didn't break the stuff to get back the money. We just unscrew the cap in the bottom to take out the money when it's full.

When I was a kid, we used to have a plastic cat one. Mostly to store coins I picked from the ground and/or changes from grocery. It adds up to quite a fair bit of money (by elementary-schooler standard anyway). But since it can't be broken, I think we had to get someone saw off the top of the head to take out the coins.

I have one at work that is in use. I don’t smash it, but I’ve seen several being yanked down from the table ? RIP those adork little ceramic pigs.
