I see nothing wrong with rating ones own work. The rating system is in place in order to showcase what people feel regarding what is written. Given that the author has feelings about what they write, it is only right they use the given outlet. Besides, if they don't like what they themselves pen, maybe they should pick some other muse.

Yeah, as long as it's not breaking a rule and people are aware it can be done, it's not really a big deal since most people would just assume at least one 5 star is from the author.

One rating isn't likely going to make or break anyone.

Precisely why I never trust a story with a single 5-star rating, and nothing else. I assume it's from the author themselves, and thus worthless.
