You could use Option two to soft-reboot everything and let the poor fella start a "new game +" but with new rules that could (meaning will) potentially make things way worse than before.
Or use it to write an afterstory that takes place before the beginning so you coan mindfuck your reader with some weird plot twists to destroy everything they thought they knew. Making MC the real villain or dropping that it was their 8356453425th "full" run or something.
