I recently just read a few novels in my spare time. Many people use First person pov. I like cinematic pov tbh but what's your taste in reading?

Cinematic. We can get more details that way IMO.

First and third both have their advantages and disadvantages. I don't prefer one over the other when reading. I do think newer authors should probably stick to first though.

I enjoy both.
I mostly wrote in third, surprisingly though the first story I posted was in first even though I normally find third easier.

But for reading, yeah.. I got no preference.

1st person is best for character based stories while 3rd person is best for plot based stories. There are outliers but this is pretty normal for most stories.

Cinematic? You mean 3rd person?
Most web novels are written in a very cinematic style, in my opinion. In technical term, it leans more into omniscient POV more than regular novels which are mostly written in third limited or even deep POV for that matter.

I love first person if the character has an interesting voice and charming enough. A huge plus if they are funny. But if I have to choose, I'll choose the latter. Cinematic POV just simply has more freedom. I can imagine it from every angle, instead of getting stuck to just one character at a time.

is your focus on the protagonist's character growth, thought process, and interactions with other characters? first person pov can be more engaging if done well.

Does your story focus more on worldbuilding, a wider cast, and/or more on actions than emotions.? cinematic is more engaging here

MY OPINION

If focused on a single character and with less than 3 other POVs? First's alright.

For everything else Third Limited.

I prefer 3rd but I’m definitely biased. I like writing in 3rd since I find it hard to pretend I am a certain character and write from their perspective. I also find my immersion gets damaged when I read/write lines that give detail the person in question is definitely not worried about.

Eg. As her worry grew her hands started running down her hair in a frantic panic. vs I was starting to get worried. So worried in fact, that my hands started speeding across my hair.

Might just be a skill issue for me though.

I think I like reading 3rd person more, but writing 1st person is easier for me.

When I write stuff like 'I did blah, he did blah' feels more natural than 'name A did blah, name B did blah.'

I might be a freak.
