Assuming you knew nothing about the story itself, which of these would you be more likely to pick up and take a look at: a series with a small number of long books, or a large number of short books?
people don't think much about these factors but other factors like book quality

They still answered. That means that some part of them, even if it's a small part, thinks about that when they're looking for something to read. Otherwise they wouldn't have answered at all--or in your case, not answer but try to derail the thread anyway.

I would say small number of large books. I like stability, and more volumes mean more contents where the risk of getting weird plot increases. A bad large book can still exist though.
A story can be long with small books. CN Webnovels are long, but they usually have small chapters.
One volume in CN webnovels usually has like +100 chapters, so it's kinda a large book. But CN webnovels are weird like that. Everything is true for them, even if it's contradictory.

Small number of large books for me, but I'm not too picky on word counts. I am picky on genres, though, so there's that.
