I've been thinking of writing for a while now but I haven't found the appropriate app to write on. I have a good writing app on my phone, but I can't muster the right attitude to write on my phone. Preferably I'd want to write using my laptop but since I don't use it that often, the wide orientation feels a bit unfamiliar to me. I was wondering if there were any writing apps out there that can help me get into the mood of writing.

dude what the heck. We can't just GIVE you motivation to write. You're gonna have to suffer through the procrastination just like the rest of us, pal

I'll give it a try.
The writing platform doesn't matter btw. What matters are your brain, imagination, and other bullshit. You can use Microsoft Word for typing. What matters the most is the content of your story. Readers don't give a shit about fancy little things that some writing apps\sites offer.

Use docs and, when typing with your phone, use one or two fingers.

Nothing beats writing on a laptop with touch-typing skills. Blowing out 1,000 words per hour just brings a certain sense of accomplishment to your work.

(Yes, my creative writing speed is 1,000 words per hour.)

The speed enabled by a proper keyboard alone makes it worth whatever you have to do to get used to your laptop. Also, having your fingers able to keep up with your thinking speed helps to streamline your creativity. The quality of your work will improve.

I like to write in Word, edit using the read-aloud on word then on the web using Prowriting/Grammarly, though you have to read their suggestions. I only write on my tablet/laptop.
This works better I think: https://www.naturalreaders.com/online/

Google docs is good since you can access the drafts from your phone. If you want something offline, you can pirate any version of Word - or use WordPad or something else free.

Writing a large amount of words on your phone will lead to pain in your hands, at least in my experience. I recommend getting used to something with a keyboard and reasonably large screen since it's both more efficient and better for your health.

As for motivation, I genuinely don't think a writing app helps with motivation apart from making writing more convenient. And most of them are about as convenient as one another. My only piece of advice is not writing in a public space, unless you're into that.

I've only recently started writing, but I find google docs to be great, plus it easy editing if you find someone willing to edit your work. I also highly recommend using a laptop and touch-typing due to the massive speed and accuracy bonus compared to trying to type on a tiny phone keyboard.

Unfortunately nothing I know of helps with motivation.

I'm mostly looking for the right place to write on. After all, writing on Notepad is different than writing on a document, or on Messenger or Twitter. I feel like it should matter a lot what platform I write on. I'm not necessarily looking for motivation, just the platform that can help me be in the right mindset for writing.

After someone suggested it to me, I've been using Discord. It does get annoying having to transfer things over for final editing.

Unless you have a phenomenally stable and low-latency internet connection at all times, I would recommend a local word-processor on your laptop. Either Word, or a word-like copy-cat app. Just having that blank page in front of you and nothing but a few font formatting tools to distract you is about all you need, and you want to minimize distractions.

Minimizing distractions is also the reason for the local app recommendation. Dealing with load-times on google docs can cause a fair amount of unneeded frustration. I only use google docs when I need to do some file-sharing.

Office online tends to be more of a backup if you'd like. In case you want a separate storage place other than google drive. Thing is that formatting at times doesn't transfer over to the desktop app.

I use a notebook for some parts, particularly notes and world building. I started out using vim (vi improved) for writing/transcribing my chapters, but ultimately switched to LibreOffice Writer for the formatting. My brain kinda shuts off when I look at a screen, so good old paper and pen is best for preliminary work.
