Free? Or you pay a little?

Niji journey is really good, but you need to pay.

There some free option like ChatGPT, Bing.AI, etc..... but the result won't be as good as AI you paid service for.

If you search ine the forum, you can also found some illustrations made by ai that are free to use by everyone, maybe you can found one.

You can also ask people here to make you an AI cover, there a lot who do it for free.

Register an account, and you can generate some images with a lot of options with the welcome tokens you get. Most people use Dalle and its same-looking style that makes me puke, but I am getting off topic here.

Then you can go either to Canva

or to Adobe

and insert your image and add text to finish the cover.

Simply go to pinterest and search. There are countless free pics there of all types. Click the picture you like and drag it to desktop.

Civit is free-esque (get free generation daily through engagement). As Corty has mentioned, it's a great option. That said, it's really the best in the business for flexibility and options. Right now I think my favorite model I'm tinkering with is Citron. Outputs are really crisp. The creator of Citron has a bunch of style LoRAs as well, but it works with any SDXL/Pony/Illustrious (all of which are SDXL derivatives) compatible LoRAs. I utilize civit, but not for generation, since my PC can handle most models (save for animated stuff).

I highly recommend trying to get the best bang for your buzz by following my informational guide (though some of the specifics are outdated, the general principles still apply).

Yeah, also there's one thing I would like to add. When creating an AI image, you will be going up against other newbie authors that will pump out a slop image and call it the day. And since most of these images look similar, you will be running into what I call, "Slop Fatigue" where readers will see a cover and know it's AI art.

Most of them don't have the best autistic eye when generating them and think that having the same idle pose will catch a readers eye.

You should aim to avoid having your cover look like their covers or they will ignore your book because it gets lumped in with these amateur authors of mediocre work.

So, it becomes a detriment if you are using the same models or AIs that everyone else uses. If you up in a little more work into a cover will help it stand out from the rest.

Anyway, best of luck

This is very true, though I've done a whole writeup before about how even a mediocre picture is far better than no picture at all. To really stand out you do need to put care into what you use though. I haven't made new novel covers in a while (and am now 4 novels behind on it), just because of the amount of effort it takes to make them. My current cover was selected from 200+ generated images, and then I used inpainting to fix aspects that I didn't like. Hours and hours and hours of work for what amounts to somewhat better quality. My first covers were far less work, but once my series started to get a decent number of readers, and showed promise in getting more, I put more effort into it.

if you go to webnovel and create a novel there (you dont need anybody's aproval) there's an option to create your own covers, the AI generator there seems to have no limits and they can be really great and of various styles
unlike any other generator, you dont need any sort of currency nor waiting too long either, generations are made in less than a minute, and you can just save them on your computer easily wihtout even needing to make a novel anyway

Idk if you're author, or try webnovel before, once they didn't create covers for you, but now they offer like AI covers for authors, though its cheating a bit? if you're not writing any, but i didn't use their cover in SH, compare to CHATGPT, their web in taking hints of visual especially characters you want, they're greater.

Oh, I agree. Having a cover, in most accounts, is better than the default placeholders. But OP is looking for advice on creating a cover. So, I wanted to give them a heads-up about a possible pitfall of they just generate a few images and think they are good enough help boost visibility. I'm a former 3D artist, so I'm a bit more of a stickler when it comes to presentation and I have the tools and enough skill to tweak my generated images to make them feel more personable.

I don't know what the percentage of my covers contributed to their success. But I think it's 30 to 40 percent of getting eyeballs on my work.
