My story (Lonely Mountain) contains complex inner monologues/dialogues.
I try to differentiate the speaker by using different colored texts for each character.
When I use MS Word to write I can't copy/paste because color codes disappear upon pasting to SH and text turns to black. Currently I use SH to write and that is my only copy with no back-up file.
So:
A) A better way to differantiate the speaker other than writing their names every time because patreon too does not allow colored text
B) A better platform to write before copy/paste

Any idea?

Google docs as long as you make sure it automatically saves all your words (I've had many words deleted because I forgot)

Grammarly works as well, annoying but it's useful, especially for correcting your grammar mistakes (though most use it AFTER they've finished writing so you can do that too)

And there's stuff like Word but I hate word because it's so... Unreliable. That's on the bottom of my list because it's the site that's deleted a lot of things for me, that DIDN'T work to recover.

Happy writing :blob_okay:

Do colored texts remain colored when you write on gdocs then copy to SH?

You have to write it in SH. If you copy the colored text to word it stays colored. If you copy that colored text from word to SH again it still stays colored. That means you can easily make back-up files with no problem.

Edit: And do something about that dark-blue color...

Thanks. I would do so to back-up.
You are the second person that mention the issue with the dark blue color. I know it makes hard to read in dark mode.
I have choosen it so that red would be the thoughts of passion while blue is reason.
I tried to change it to light blue but that only made it harder to read in light mode this time.
That's why I am asking. Would using the method
Name: lorem ipsum
or
Name: 'lorem ipsum'
be better?

If you only have 2 inner monologues make one italicized while the other regular. or italic and italic + bold

There are 4 inner monologues/dialogues 3 of which are constantly bickering with each other right now. Red+Blue+Black. I know it hurts the eyes but the characters (black monologues) interacting with these "inner selves" can feel the general emotions which are a fiery passion for red and a cold indifference for blue.
And there are going to be more "inner voices" in the future. So I have no choice to write it like this until I find something that can satisfy both me and the readers.
I am open to suggestions though. At peak, there are going to be 5+ inner voices and 5+ outer voices that constantly bicker.
For example, the inner monologue of someone saying one thing while the outer voice of the same person says something completely different; or inner voices of 6 people discuss one thing while the outer voice of one discussing with someone else aloud.
Imagine it like making a conference call with headphones while talking with someone else who is not in the conference call.

sounds tiresome. you can use the
x: " "
x said, " " ( or other similar combination.)
or simply stick to one of the two modes (light or dark) and work around it. imo the most challenging thing here would be keeping each voice unique. if you manage to do that, whatever choice you make will work - even if you simply use floating texts.

I think am going to stick with light mode and keep the colored text for now.
I've put an announcement on the chapters that shouldn't be read in dark mode.
I may have bitten more than I can chew on my first story but It works for now.
I didn't use the "X Said" style because I am trying to write it a little bit exotic and cryptic. I have just tipped the nature of the colored text inside the head of the MC and didn't even give the names of MC and FMC.
In time when the story settles I may use that style.
Thanks :s_wink:
