For those who are confused by the title, here is an example of what I am talking about.

A CN cultivator who is a transmigrator suddenly receives his D&D power system cheat after spending three years stuck as a level one Qi Condensation. Dude picked Druid class because he's a beekeeper and used his newfound Talk to Animal skills to help himself in earning money for more resources to level up his cultivation level.

In this case, the Druid class is a level on its own, arbitrary going up whenever MC completes his druid tasks while his cultivation level is done via meditation and doping.

To me, it felt off. Sure, the Druid class actually helped MC's skillsets to expand, but in the end, his cultivation has no relations with the system cheat.

Have you seen such an oddity before?

So you're not telling me China has an entire genre of stories based on sitting around and getting high on opium while getting more powerful because of it? You're not telling me that's what cultivation is ultimately about?

I'm not overly familiar with the genre, so no. The druid thing sounds interesting and the cultivation leveling sounds hella boring to me. But that's my preferences, has nothing to do with quality of the work or genre.

Not common, but not unheard of.

I like it a bit, since it's a good way to fill in gaps in otherwise weak systems. Of course, it would be better to just not make weak systems in the first place...

I remember a Chinese story where the MC's system is a martial arts system, but he's in a wizard world, so he couldn't even do the first quest. Instead, he just uses the system to grind proficiency for spells. I don't know what happened later as it got too stupid, so I lost interest.

Yeah, makes sense. Why give a weak system cheat that serves no other purpose than to bridge gaps of current situations.

That sucks. I mean, if MC can learn knight's breathing using the martial arts system as well as grinding spell skills, then he is the same as the MC in Wizard! Knight's Breathing.

Advanced cultivators should be capable of creating their own system, if they want. And simplifying cultivation to the level all stages you just gather Qi to level up makes this genre much less enjoyable.
