What's your typing speed?

I've been writing for a while now and I rarely see any improvement in my typing speed if I'm not specifically trying to improve it through some other websites like 'Typeracer'. Though recently I've fallen into a plateau at 80-90 WPM(When my fingers are all warmed up).

Did writing books helped you improve your typing speed by a large margin or it was something you had to work on separately?

Writing normally would improve someone's typing speed if and only if they had some shit speed. Otherwise it wouldn't. Why? Becuase after a point of improvement just doing things mindlessly doesn't improve anything. What you need is concious effort. Otherwise my typing speed would have been insane since i have been basically typing for years now.

i used to do a solid 101 WPM but then i had a finger injury and its still stiff to the point where i dont use it when typing so my speed dropped to 98 WPM or lower sometimes.

I was writing really slowly when I was starting writing, to the point I was not confident in writing without glancing at my keyboard. I have never been specifically working on my writing speed because I didn't see much of a point in it.

Now, about one year after starting writing, I can easily do consistent ~60 wpm if I actually know what I'm writing, not coming up with things as I go.

The amount of: "Whatever gets the chapter done to not betray the promise of my release schedule."

Honest question, do you guys truly measure how fast or how much you write? Has it any importance besides being a stenographer or something similar?

About 75 consistently. If it's random words pulled from a dictionary without punctuation or commas, then around 100-110ish.

Around a 100 if I'm doing something like data entry or taking notes and just copying a document onto the computer, but maybe like 2 minutes per word if I'm actually writing a story.

Lot and lot of computer usage (now at similar age as Houshou-Marine oba-san) made me at 79 WPM (just tested now).

Mostly mmos early on. Then forums. And bunch of other things. And simply surfing internet, read mangas, etc.
I didn't train specifically. I just have my subconscious know all emplacements of keys on keyboards. If TV question show ask where a certain key is on keyboard, its slightly easy to answer.
-------------------
For higher WPM, it needs talent and training. and warming.
The famous fast "SC2 players". One thing for their fast "speed" is caused because of warming up.
That is WHY during peaceful phases or during the boring beginning, you can see on camera their in-game gameplay spamming a lot of useless actions. Analogy : You can think like spamming mouse button like a parkinson patient is a way of warming fingers.
Also the tests of WPM, are not a true representation of person speed. Because they force you to write THEIR WORDS and not the words the brain want to write. [The hero took the sword and cut his gut. Then took his dagger and cut his throat] vs [The penguins in Antarctica are very fat hence create a very easy target to shoot with a sniper rifle]
Also native language is not same. Some words are harder. Then punctuation. etc
Also age can be important i guess. Just like reflex worsen after the golden teen period.
--------------------------
Edit : Also WPM testers, they penalize you heavily if you do a typo or not perfect writing. And god sometimes their themes are "urg". Just now the WPM i did had interesting but very useless (unless a gathering of friends) infos about MARS, the reason it's red with a certain element, and talked about antartica having often people going there, mostly tourists and stations workers and 2 ATMs. And that sharks lived same era as dinosaurs but arent one, but the birds are "living dinosaurs".
----------------------------
Edit : 89 WPM without warming. English not native. Crappy theme words. And shitty typos.

There is lot of things that don't need specific training to be good at, but can happen by doing it regularly. Some good singers simply sang sometimes like a sheep herder while they graze or a person singing in shower, during work, etc. A good runner also appear if the dude is forced to run 1km to go the school everyday.

Btw warning about over-usage of fingers. Now my right index finger is kinda handicapped because of "PSO2:NGS" and "HADES" games, overusing left click. I can't over-exert too much and too long or pain can re-appear. Now it's better lately as its been a while but it was painful for very long when it first happened.
Consistent 96 WPM average & 126 peaks.
Thx Riley.
Thx to your post i remembered that my best WPM a few months/1year ago was 112WPM. (I screenshoted and shared to some acquaintances before and 112 is a pretty looking round number)
Though i find weird that the WPM-testing i just did told me i have only 89. I guess it's a bad testing website.
Its https://www.typingtest.com/ btw.
