It's presented as magic in a fantasy setting, but I try to keep the results grounded in reality, if that makes sense. Basically saying, if someone could instinctively control or throttle entropic decay, what real effects and limitations might that present?Sounds like a complex endeavor conjuring up such forces of quantum physics to change from disrupting for destruction to healing, sounds kinda magical even, is it a magical sci-fi setting or advanced beyond comprehension?
Even in a world with magic and healing potions, she still deals with a lot of real-world pharmacology in order to ground the setting in a way that feels believable. This way it become less about "hey cool power to rot and destroy" and more about how she balances her desire to heal and do good when she's been taught that her true talent lies in destruction. One of my favorite twists in Book 1 comes at the midpoint. Instead of resolving the plot with her hinted-at dark powers saving the day, it hinges on her community-building and willingness to sacrifice for others backed up by seemingly-throwaway details from earlier in the story.
The story isn't power-progression, she's already incredibly deadly. It's about her learning to define what that power is used for.
