The first books that got me into reading were the Harry Potter and Percy Jackson series. There was also another one named Spy School that I enjoyed when I was younger. Now I'm reading fanfics and such XD.

Many, The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and The Chronicles of Narnia, of course.

But I also fondly remember How to Become King, El Barco de Vapor, The Virtues of War: A Novel of Alexander the Great, Ami: Child of the Stars, The NeverEnding Story.

Those are some of the books that got me into reading.

Later, once I was already hooked, I got into all the visual novels, light novels, web novels, etc...

Ah, I see. The Lord of the Rings was the one book series my father forced me to read, but I've grown to love it later. I remember when I first finished the books, he was excited to show me the movies afterwards. (He's a big LOTR nerd XD.)

Your writing about The Chronicles of Narnia also reminded me of the book The Giver. There were many classics I read, but I can't remember them all, lol.

Was...

something by Terry Brooks

It could have been The Sword of Shannara (1977) or Magic Kingdom for Sale—Sold! (1986)

I inhaled this dude's books like they were nothing. I think I was told to read The Lord of the Rings, and with English as a second language and also being a kid, I did like 4 run-ups and each time failed to get past 30 or 40 pages.

Tried to read both The Sword of Shannara (1977) and Magic Kingdom for Sale—Sold! (1986)... at the same time, and I think I finished Magic Kingdom for Sale first and read the rest of the Landover series, then finished the Shannara books.

Then went on to David Eddings and Terry Pratchett, a bit of Marion Zimmer Bradley, and the Margaret Weis, then A LOT OF Margaret Weis, then Melanie Rawn, K. J. Parker and David Gemmell, then I mostly stopped reading when I got to university.

I didn't get back into it until much later... I think I started reading Neil Gaiman stuff on and off... during uni, but... I think The Devil's Detective by Simon Kurt Unsworth and Mystery Man by Colin Bateman were when I started reading again.

Hmmm... looks like I didn't really read sci-fi will last 5 or 6 years... I did read a lot more mystery and crime since I graduated... interesting...

Really got me into it? Children's books about dinosaurs. Read so many I have no clue what any of the titles are (but my first grade teacher commented: "It is ... interesting having him in class when we discuss dinosaurs. He keeps correcting my pronunciation, and when I look into it later, the very few times he's been wrong, I was too")

I loved the Wings of Fire series and it brought me into reading a lot of fantasy where I soon got into reading various web novels a noticeable one was the Legendary Mechanic.

Before I read stories, I first learned how to read them in English, and Dictionary is my friend (Grolier New Webster's Edition), and first story I read is an Ebook in Nokia where an Dying Male turned into an Angel Spirit and guides someone, a Female, she went to an ordeal to find his body in a hospital, then he went away in peace, also, the adventures is that she gets to know him through his spirit, and he bid farewell, saying his name is [My IRL First Name] so that is memorable because of the mention, then stories to read went a plenty when my fire on playing video games died because of boredom, liked Rimworld though so when I get my Desktop Computer to be repaired, or have a brand new one, I will read most of my free time and play Rimworld + Mods

It was a random Animorphs book (#19 The Departure). Since it was random, the plot was already in full swing. I can only somewhat remember it because I was of course confused as to why everyone was talking about stuff like I was supposed to know. What grasped me was at the end when they were on a raid to a Yeerk compound, they met the Hork-Bajir being controlled and I got front row seats to my first Animorph's war crime. They fucking butchered the innocent slaves.

Inject that shit into my veins!

Have you watched the anime? Is it good? I've heard about it, so I've been curious. Currently binge-watching anime lol

I've always been a casual reader for the most part, but the thing that threw me into the fantasy and webnovel rabbit-hole was The Spellslinger series by Sebastian de Castel.

"One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish".
I still have it on my shelf all these years later.
Face it, if you weren't weaned on Dr. Seuss in your youth, you really missed the boat. *^^*
