What Type of Heroine do You Prefer: Moral Heroines or Love Interest Heroines?

Moral Heroine is a female character whose role in the story is shaped by moral values, principles, or responsibilities, not by a romantic relationship.

Characteristics:
  • The primary goal is independent of the male protagonist.
  • The conflict and character development are driven by an ethical dilemma, humanitarian mission, or social struggle.
  • If there is an element of love, it is secondary and not the core of the role.
Examples: Violet (Violet Evergarden), Nico Robin (One Piece), and Marry El Rose (Blood Rose Princess)

Love Interest Heroine is a female character whose narrative existence is primarily designed to be the main character's romantic interest or partner.

Characteristics:
  • The character arc often runs parallel to or is subordinate to the development of the male protagonist.
  • The main conflict is often related to the relationship or emotions toward the protagonist.
  • Even though they can have strong personalities, they are still framed through romantic relationships.
Examples: Asuna (SAO), Rem (Re: Zero), and Hinata Hyuga (Naruto)

Both. A good love interest should also be either a Foil or a complement to the protagonist.

Honestly, this question feels like it's designed to be misleading... It's like asking if you prefer a colored painting or line art.

Active heroines. Ones who grab the story (and maybe the hero) by the nads and don't just sit back as passive observers, as damsels in distress.
But NOT infallible ones - those just get boring.

Isn't Violet Evergarden primarily focused on understanding what Love is? It's not exactly the same as the other examples, but i would characterize her as a romantic heroine.
Yes, Violet finds for the meaning of love. This makes her a moral heroine, seeking the existential meaning of love, not simply pursuing recognition as a romantic relationship. Furthermore, being a moral heroine doesn't mean being anti-romantic; it's just that their romantic relationship isn't the main conflict in the story, but rather the emphasis on moral and humanitarian issues as the central conflict.
