If torture is too much it descends back to comedy. If it gets too over the top people just start laughing.
Example
small kid gets thrown into cheese grater. The villain does it so casually and so adruptly. Like here villan is having fun and next thing kid is in cheese grater. With such a expression that it turns into comedy. This is really common.If you are reading a torture story and sienfield theme start playing and you start laughing very loudly then this has occured.
