A curious question, what should intermissions be used for? How can it be used effectively in a story, what are they even used for? And does anyone really use Intermissions?

I don't even have a good set definition for an Intermission besides being a small break for readers for intensive arcs.

Use it to advance the plot from a different perspective. That could be done by introducing a new adversary, or setting the scene of a place the MC is about to visit.

There's multiple different things you can do, but that's what comes to mind because that's what I'm currently doing as my MC is in a mini t training arc. *It also helps to introduce lore

I literally put intermission at the end of every chapter in my main novel lol.

I am using it either for adding more comedy relief or explanation for term/situation that happened on the said chapter.

Intermissions are great for skipping boring parts.
Characters are studying for exams? Boring! Skip it!
Practicing for a marathon? Other than a few key moments, everything is boring. Skip the boring parts.
Characters are too young to do fun stuff? Skip!
