I stop writing for now after finding everything I write is painful to read.

I write in 3rd person, multiple views as I tried and failed to craft the world out.

I also assumes the readers are somehow like me and have basic knowledge, if not I will leave crumbs all over the place.

To make my characters feel alive, I tried to make them feel pain and angst at every corners, going by the policies of "no matter your choices, there is only BE" and "all the little highs are just to bring out a lower low".

I go by the minimalist method not because I am good, but because I am lazy.

I write by reading books, noticing things I find annoying, and them trying to remove them from what I do whenever I notice that I'm doing exactly what I don't like. Sometimes, if I'm feeling punchy, I try to notice things that I like about books and add them, but that is far, far more difficult. I'll probably get around to it more often after I work out the kinks in my core programming.

The last big subtraction was 'using internal monologues as straightforward exposition.' That was effectively my writing style, until one day I realized I hated it when it was done to me. That which is hateful to you, do not do to others.
Oh, the internal monologues becoming exposition can be a real pain! I'm glad you were able to stop using them! \(^^)/

I'm fumbling around with a writing style hopefully similar to The Hunger Games right now.

Some years back, someone described me as someone who "writes like a dream". I still don't know if that had been meant as praise, insult, or both.

im a lazy reader who only cares about the juicy bits so that's all i try to to write. i'm not descriptive at all because most of the time i tend to prefer filling in the details on my own while reading (and i suck at writing descriptively).

‘My’ writing style changes depending on what I’m writing. If I’m writing from a character’s perspective (as in Falling Petals): then I mostly emulate that character’s perspective/style in my writing.

If I’m writing personal things in public: my style is as you can see it here, with the exception that it’s rather more argumentative and clever than I might otherwise write... and if that’s not a damnable assessment of my talents then I don’t know what one is!?

I’m naturally inclined to write in a certain manner: I overuse ellipses, I overuse colons, I overuse giant sentences that I absolutely could have broken down if I changed the way I think about things. Just, so, even, though, although, perhaps, still, but, and, however, rather, quite, very, such.... each of those feature entirely too heavily in anything that I’m writing. Searching ‘rather’ on the whole of Falling Petals is a terrifying experience.

My writing style is that of someone who writes in their 3rd language. :blob_reach: Supplemented heavily by internal monologue substituting largely the narrator.

The harder I try to write well, the longer and more pretentious my sentences become.

Yeah. It's just your 3rd language ...
Next you'll nonchalantly boast that your writing in your 5th language is terrible, then you'll win an award for it. :blob_pout:
Meanwhile, in a land far far away, a lonely non-european loser is sitting down trying to learn to read and write Japanese as their 2nd language.

And as far as I see thanks to your constant updates you are doing well in your endeavour. :blobtaco:*cheering up Yo-chan. English is sadly actually better than my supposed 2nd one*

And I doubt the second part strongly, my old Greek is terrible in fact. :sweating_profusely:

*hugs* I can relate! I need to try really hard to avoid using a crazy high number of commas and ellipses in my writing! >.<

And even then, sometimes my readers complain that I use too many... orz

*hugs* I know how you feel! Learning English as my 2nd was fine because I had contact with English for as long as I remember, but... Trying to learn Japanese as my 3rd is so hard... T.T

I kept lowering my standards until I could write. As a result, my style is almost entirely conversation and internal monologue, because those are what I find easiest to write.
