What is the appeal of watching suicide?

So suddenly, I got an OC with the fetish of watching people committing suicide. Now I was as intrigued as the guy right below me, so I tried to understand this character I just created. However, I just couldn't understand the appeal of watching someone else killing themselves. Hence, I came to SH in hope that some wise person (witch, wizard, tentacle monster, pregnant table, gay lord, asexual foxy furries, etc. whatever the heck you are) will impart me with enlightenment on this type of character.

It's fascinating because its ironic, it tells you the fragility of a human lives. How such a marvelous and complex organism can simply stop living just by committing sucide, another reason might be because it make the MC curious whether the person would be brave enough to commit sucide or succumb to the cowardness, that there is still something to live for. Maybe that's the beauty of sucide, it's the ambodiment of a filter. The brave gets to move on whereas the cowards will be stuck down here in this hellhole of a world, after all there's the phrase that's go"goodbye cruel world"

Well, consider the tragedy genre.

There are a few theories on why people watch/read tragedies, but the most compelling one to me is that tragedies act as a way for people to experience sadness (without the anxiety that usually accompanies real life situations) and reflect on what they value in their own lives.

... That aside, there are also some weirdos that like watching people suffer, I guess?

Taking a life is the cowardly way out, the most ungrateful act towards everyone who raised you, but at the same time, killing yourself is the bravest way to commit murder. Every life is hard-wired to preserve themselves above all, to commit such an act is to rebel against the most basic law of nature.

Watching people commit murder is horrible, but when commiting self-delete its fascinating. Because it goes against the norm, it make you curious what pushed them so far to kill themselves.

Your character could be fascinated by suicide because it peaked their morbid curiosity.

Take me for example, I have a morbid curiosity with human organs. When I see them, I just wonder how these different shades of red make a human function.

their was a murder investigation where a dude agreed to meet up with another dude to eat his own penis. he died of blood loss before his own penis was ready to eat, and the dude who cooked it had no idea how to properly cook a penis, thus it became inedable.

fetishes are wierd because they are born from a desire to break a taboo.

its like drugs. even if you know they are bad the temptation will always be their. the more aware of the drug you are, the more likely you will try it out.

It is not fun. However... some years ago I had a friend who committed suicide by hanging herself. I spoke at her funeral. For many months after that I had nightmares that she was sitting at the foot of my bed with a broken neck. I eventually started watching videos of people committing suicide by hanging. Very disturbing, horrifying, upsetting. But it also "pushed out" the less realistic nightmare somehow. Then I stopped watching the videos too, but I still have the memory of them in my mind. I wish I did not.

In other words: this can be a response to grief or trauma, not just a "personality trait" or curiosity. It probably doesn't last if it's curiosity.

Haven't witnessed a suicide attempt but I did it myself several times. Still got to live in the end, though there are moments I thought 'this is finally it' only for someone to discover my dying self and get me medical attention.

Yep, it's painful. And the aftermath is messy. Especially those people gossiping about you for your attempts; some injuries can be hidden, others are not. And they aren't keen on finding out why you did it.

According to them, suicide is against the laws of heaven, thus someone who kills themselves or attempted to is the devil incarnate. lol

Lost two students/friends to suicide. It's also the reason why I became so overprotective of my students I ruined myself in the end.

People who find it fascinating to watch might've some issues going on within themselves. Who am I to judge?

Life goes brrrrrr... eak?

People are weird and there's a fetish for everything. Maybe you just want to feel superior to some other poor saps that take the "easy way out", or something. I don't know and I honestly don't want to know. That's the kind of forbidden knowledge I try to stay away from...

childhood trauma is the answer to most things. most fetishes also develop during childhood/puberty. the trigger usually is an experience, either personally experienced or perceived through others.

maybe your mc watched a loved one suicide while he was little and it was so raw and overwhelming it was imprinted into his brain. maybe it's only then he can 'feel' or 'connect' with the person he lost.

maybe he watched his lover die and now his mind links intimacy in some way with this loss.

maybe it's a fantasy he wishes he could do but never actually does. like a twisted forbidden apple.

or he's just a sadistic psychopath... but that's boring

he longs to go. he wants to see the relieve spread over their face as they free themselves and pass on. yet it does not appear. the violent struggles are not what he needs, yet they feed his addiction. this one, no, the next one must be it. again and again he is drawn to the common spots...

maybe he missed it, maybe the moment is to short. he starts filming it. every night he watches the recordings searching for that glimpse of bliss obsessively. soon he discovers an interesting community of people who share such videos.

too late he notices that somewhere along the way something changed. he pays too much attention to the process. with interest he observes the violent death throws he used to disdain. isn't it beautiful? how they struggle despite all the pills? how they agonize before taking the final jump?

and the quiet, uneventful deaths, are they truly quiet? he wants to see their eyes up close and read their dying thoughts from them. so he starts stalking those meetings... he knows one of the participants will eventually make that decision.
and he is in luck, one of his spy cams captures the death of a young man in his bathtub. the recording instantly becomes his treasure.

after pouring over every second, he starts editing it. it's a good edit, but there is something missing. more angles would have been great...

one day, he finds himself standing over another young man. this man struggled with the very same feelings as his previous observation target. this one had been unable to take the necessary steps, so he had given him some encouragement. still, he had arrived to late. he had the recordings but... book after book he sifted through the intricacies of the human psyche. if he could more accurately predict the time... if he could influence the method... nothing was impossible.
