What is political (No politics please)?

There are many definitions for the term 'political', with some very broad ones including everything, but I don't like such broad definitions since a definition that includes everything means nothing. Basically such definitions are useless.

I’d define political as this.

Political: Issues where competing interests or values, deeply held by many, require collective decisions and often involve efforts to change others’ viewpoints.

Political is anything any political figure interacts with ever. Frequency determines how political it is considered.

Politics has its roots in Ancient Greek, specifically the term "politiká" meaning "affairs of the cities." Cities would then become citystates, which would later become countries, etc.

Spoiler: political viewpoints used as examples ahead:

If I were to say, "I don't think state taxes should be spent building more parks for sports games if the parks are then going to be given to private entities so that they can make a profit," then I engaged in politics.

Another example should be, "The emissions gasoline cars put out are comparable if not lesser than the emissions power plants would put out if we switched to electric cars due to the fact that many power plants work with coal or fossil fuels rather than nuclear energy, so we're not saving the planet by switching to electric cars, just giving the government the power to turn off the power if they wanted to stop people from traveling," which is also politics and a bit of a spicy take.

Any conversation about relating to the state of the civilization you live in is politics. Not just the country itself; it can be as small as a neighborhood choosing their next HOA president or as large as intercontinental alliances.

It's not content with what matters.

It is the intention.

A "non-political" fiction is the one that could exist on its own.

It may require a certain cultural and historical context in order to understand the plot, and could, in fact, be about politics relevant to the era it was made in, but that alone doesn't make the fiction "political" per se.

How do you recognize that the fiction is "political"?

Well, it's easy. They, the creator and people associated with them, would tell you. Repeatedly. They won't shut up, no matter what, and soon, other politicians would join. (And journalists, but journalists are hereditary unelected politicians, an aristocracy basically, we just don't call them by noble titles yet)

Why?

Well, because they are not interested in creating the work of fiction, they have political ambitions, ones they want to advance now, not after a decade when someone would finally analyze their work, assuming it is not completely forgotten by then.

That's the magical thing about politics: You need to do it now. The art, even the bad art, could be enjoyed some time had passed, but a political career couldn't afford any delays.

Any of those annoying works you would complain about now wouldn't be considered political if their creators could keep their mouth shut....
