It is usually accompanied by review swapping and ratings as that is essential. Anyway, for shoutout, you just recommend some elses work in a chapter of yours. Like in the author notes.

Hey! I've been trying to get these started over here, glad other people are doing the same. Assurbanipal is taking a pretty cynical view, review/rating swap is not required. At the bottom of this chapter: https://www.scribblehub.com/read/1667726-amaranthine/chapter/1679722/ you can see a shoutout I did for my pal @SukiSays. They did something similar for me in their story, and we've both gotten a bunch of new readers out of it. Highly recommend *if* you check out the person's story and its A. good, and B. something you think your readers would enjoy.

A shoutout swap is simply you recommending their story and them recommending your story, a mutual favor.

Awww, but no, I've had folks in the comments say they came from Suki. The discord thing is weird, but shoutouts are definitely a big thing on RR, which from that screenshot is where he contacted you. It's *probably* legit, just use a normal amount of caution and don't buy any crypto he tries to sell you.

Last time we interacted, I was in a thread joking around about how fanfiction is garbage (a common jest around these parts), and you assumed I was trying to insult you somehow. I get English isn't your first language, but if you automatically assume that everything you don't understand is a slight against you, then that says more about you than everyone you've disagreed with.

Fyi, they use this site https://finitevoid.dev/shoutout usually to format the shoutout

Usually authors will send eachother their "code", which each will put at the end of their respective chapters.

I once received an invitation from a dark fantasy group there to "support each other" against the dominance of the LitRPG genre. But I declined, or rather, I didn't respond. It may be common there, but I have no intention of getting involved in drama just to attract readers. I prefer to focus on my content and see what I can improve in my narrative.
