Most of my characters originate as either plot devices or abstractions. Current (villain) protagonist was supposed to be a pure embodiment of malignant sexual perversion, unconstrained by morality but drastically constrained by personal hangups and squicks.

The antagonist was supposed to be an equally pure embodiment of fanatical, destructive devotion to a cause—but once I started writing them, I realized I don't even want them to be an antagonist anymore, so IDK.

My protagonist was the result of too many hours of reading time-travel web novels, but then she grew into someone who wants to change her destiny because she realized too late she became a monster and is driven by love and revenge.

My antagonist is the result of false hope and a bad upbringing, the result of being told that she was great and others were not, and also jealousy—lots of jealousy for the MC.
