View attachment 43992I made this map! :blob_aww:

I created the heightmap from scratch, placed all the biomes, the mountain ranges, and many features (though a lot are generated based on those biomes). It has an insane degree of zoom which you can't see in the .jpeg.

I added all 15 provinces of the empire with authentic names, then I added and named all 97 (or so) commanderies with authentic, historical names! I named all like... 160 some rivers and the dozen or so major lakes.

I added and named cities, assigned populations, and even created routes.

I added markers for major locations (still working on this) like sects, mountains, and more!

Its been a ton of work. It might be worth it down the road when I start getting deeper into my story as it'll let me manage and track military deployments easier, as well as other types of geography-related developments.

But oh boy has it been a lot of work!

Do you like maps? If so, I would like to see your map.
I hope I have this dedication, I'll just slap a name in a differentky colored patch of land and whatever happens, happens

Ah hell ? I used to have a map for my story too—planned out the culture, landscape, level of technology, and a migration route for an event... until I realized I had a completely wrong idea about European feudalism. So I had to do some major revising. Never got to redrawing the map yet. :blob_teary:

It's a great map. But it only comes to life if you provide living world and/ or vivid worldbuilding. Imagine having a great map but the narrative never explores life in the countries depicted on the map and doesn't influence the conflict and plot of your fiction. Then the map would be wasted. A good narrative brings the map to life in the reader's imagination.

My narrative is all up in the map's guts. Im actually quite pleased with how the story had been bringing together a lot of the worldbuilding in the central regions.
❤️ I love this kind of lore, and world building! it's so fun! I'm so excited for you!

How in depth do you plan on getting into your world building? :blob_aww:
Do you plan on going as far as location, and sights, or as deep as languages, and dining customs (like food tastes, and bad mannerisms per country)? I find it all super fascinating! It's my favorite part of story writing. (though you don't get to see every little detail. within the stories)
I do not intend to make a language, but the rest is coming together nicely. There have been some nice vistas introduced, some cool city descriptions, cultural components even between those two cities, food, and clothing, and more. Its been a good time.
