Hey everyone!
I've been working on a crossover fic (Wubba Lubba Dub Dub, There Is Only War) and I wanted to open up a discussion about the concept because I think there's a lot of unexplored potential here.
The Core Premise: Rick Sanchez—infinite multiverse super-genius, zero respect for authority, blood-alcohol level that violates physics—gets portal-gunned into Warhammer 40K. The grim darkness of the 41st millennium meets someone who's seen worse and doesn't care.
Why This Works (IMO):

What I'd Love to Discuss:
I'm currently 4 chapters (3 published, 1 Draft) in and having a blast writing it, but I'd love to hear other authors' and readers' thoughts on the concept. What works? What doesn't? What would you do with this premise?

Thanks for reading this wall of text! Looking forward to the discussion.
Poll: Which 40K faction should Rick encounter next?
I've been working on a crossover fic (Wubba Lubba Dub Dub, There Is Only War) and I wanted to open up a discussion about the concept because I think there's a lot of unexplored potential here.
The Core Premise: Rick Sanchez—infinite multiverse super-genius, zero respect for authority, blood-alcohol level that violates physics—gets portal-gunned into Warhammer 40K. The grim darkness of the 41st millennium meets someone who's seen worse and doesn't care.
Why This Works (IMO):
- Tonal Clash: Rick's nihilistic irreverence vs. 40K's oppressive grimdark creates instant comedy
- Tech Gap: Rick treats 40K tech like caveman tools, which drives the Mechanicus insane
- Authority Problems: Every 40K faction is peak authoritarianism. Rick's natural enemy.
- Cosmic Horror Immunity: Rick's been to dimensions that make the Warp look tame
- Narrative Potential: Rick can't just portal out immediately (broken portal gun), so he's actually stuck dealing with this universe
Some Dynamics I've Been Exploring:
- The Mechanicus Think He's the Omnissiah - Half worship him, half want him dead for heresy. Rick hates all of it.
- Orks Actually Like Him - They're the only faction that doesn't take themselves seriously. Rick teaches them better tech, chaos ensues. Their reality-warping "belief makes it real" tech fascinates him.
- The Emperor - Two immortal super-geniuses, one keeping humanity alive through sheer will, the other having given up on meaning entirely. Their conversation could be the emotional core.
- Morty in the Underhive - While Rick's causing chaos topside, Morty experiences 40K as it's meant to be experienced: absolutely terrifying. Ground-level horror as contrast to Rick's casual destruction.
- Chaos Gods - Tzeentch would be very interested in someone who can manipulate reality outside the Warp's rules. Rick building a "Chaos God Nullifier" seems inevitable.
Questions I'm Wrestling With:
- Power Scaling: How do you keep Rick challenged without nerfing him? He's casually universe-tier, but 40K runs on scale and attrition.
- Consequences: Rick causes chaos wherever he goes, but 40K is already chaos. How do you make his actions feel impactful?
- Tone Balance: How much grimdark vs. comedy? I'm going for "Rick's irreverence makes the horror funnier through contrast" but it's a delicate balance.
- Factions: Which 40K factions would be most interesting for Rick to encounter? I've done Imperium, Mechanicus, and Orks so far. Thinking Tyranids, Chaos, or Necrons next.
What I'd Love to Discuss:
- What 40K factions would have the most interesting dynamic with Rick?
- How would you handle Rick vs. the Warp? (He can't just science his way out of literal hell-magic... or can he?)
- What's the most interesting way Rick could "break" 40K without it feeling like a stomp?
- Any crossover pitfalls I should avoid?
- What would you want to see in this kind of crossover?
