What if Rick Sanchez came into Warhammer 40K?

Hey everyone!

I've been working on a crossover fic (Wubba Lubba Dub Dub, There Is Only War) and I wanted to open up a discussion about the concept because I think there's a lot of unexplored potential here.

The Core Premise: Rick Sanchez—infinite multiverse super-genius, zero respect for authority, blood-alcohol level that violates physics—gets portal-gunned into Warhammer 40K. The grim darkness of the 41st millennium meets someone who's seen worse and doesn't care.

Why This Works (IMO):

  • Tonal Clash: Rick's nihilistic irreverence vs. 40K's oppressive grimdark creates instant comedy
  • Tech Gap: Rick treats 40K tech like caveman tools, which drives the Mechanicus insane
  • Authority Problems: Every 40K faction is peak authoritarianism. Rick's natural enemy.
  • Cosmic Horror Immunity: Rick's been to dimensions that make the Warp look tame
  • Narrative Potential: Rick can't just portal out immediately (broken portal gun), so he's actually stuck dealing with this universe

Some Dynamics I've Been Exploring:

  1. The Mechanicus Think He's the Omnissiah - Half worship him, half want him dead for heresy. Rick hates all of it.
  2. Orks Actually Like Him - They're the only faction that doesn't take themselves seriously. Rick teaches them better tech, chaos ensues. Their reality-warping "belief makes it real" tech fascinates him.
  3. The Emperor - Two immortal super-geniuses, one keeping humanity alive through sheer will, the other having given up on meaning entirely. Their conversation could be the emotional core.
  4. Morty in the Underhive - While Rick's causing chaos topside, Morty experiences 40K as it's meant to be experienced: absolutely terrifying. Ground-level horror as contrast to Rick's casual destruction.
  5. Chaos Gods - Tzeentch would be very interested in someone who can manipulate reality outside the Warp's rules. Rick building a "Chaos God Nullifier" seems inevitable.

Questions I'm Wrestling With:

  • Power Scaling: How do you keep Rick challenged without nerfing him? He's casually universe-tier, but 40K runs on scale and attrition.
  • Consequences: Rick causes chaos wherever he goes, but 40K is already chaos. How do you make his actions feel impactful?
  • Tone Balance: How much grimdark vs. comedy? I'm going for "Rick's irreverence makes the horror funnier through contrast" but it's a delicate balance.
  • Factions: Which 40K factions would be most interesting for Rick to encounter? I've done Imperium, Mechanicus, and Orks so far. Thinking Tyranids, Chaos, or Necrons next.

What I'd Love to Discuss:

  1. What 40K factions would have the most interesting dynamic with Rick?
  2. How would you handle Rick vs. the Warp? (He can't just science his way out of literal hell-magic... or can he?)
  3. What's the most interesting way Rick could "break" 40K without it feeling like a stomp?
  4. Any crossover pitfalls I should avoid?
  5. What would you want to see in this kind of crossover?

I'm currently 4 chapters (3 published, 1 Draft) in and having a blast writing it, but I'd love to hear other authors' and readers' thoughts on the concept. What works? What doesn't? What would you do with this premise?

Thanks for reading this wall of text! Looking forward to the discussion.
Poll: Which 40K faction should Rick encounter next?

  • Tyranids
  • Chaos (Daemons/Cultists)
  • Necrons
  • Dark Eldar
  • Tau
  • Eldar/Craftworld
  • Genestealer Cult
  • Other (comment below)

  1. What 40K factions would have the most interesting dynamic with Rick?

Orcs ofcourse, he would probably be partying with the WAAARRRGGG!!!!

  2. How would you handle Rick vs. the Warp? (He can't just science his way out of literal hell-magic... or can he?)

He found a way to use his pickle form to negate the effects of the warp. It turns out brine was the natural antithesis of the warp hell energies. It was actually well documented in one of the codexs, but everyone thought that tech priest was just a loon, and never attempted to recreate his theory

  3. What's the most interesting way Rick could "break" 40K without it feeling like a stomp?

Could just have him hopping around, helping every faction in some way, thus maintaining the balance. Then he would go back and party with the orcs.

  4. Any crossover pitfalls I should avoid?

You can't take it too seriously, which is weird when you think of anything 40k... but its Rick

  5. What would you want to see in this kind of crossover?

Cure the emperor but leave him with a new issue.
Introduce the Orcs to a new colour that makes things even strongah!
I would love some morty cameos, where Rick has to run around to the different races to save morty,
Above all else, he would need to cut off pretty much anyone who was trying to monolouge, pressing a button, and shunting that person to another dimesion filled with some random fluffy things.

Who even is that

and this thread reeks of AI

Rick and morty cartoon.

Rick is just a ultra smart guy who can travel the multiverse, while the rest of us plebians are more concerned about what the sports scores are. He is drunk, sarcastic, and always seems to be 10 steps ahead of everyone... and he really doesn't seem to care about much other than his own gratification, and to a point his family.

Its currently used by two jobs and a masters degree
:blob_neutral: And I am supposed to be impressed? You are wasting here the time and effort of real humans with your AI slop. And it is annoying.

Honestly, the premise of the story makes my head spin. I don't know where the story is going? This is purely my opinion, others may like it, but sorry it's not me.

Your point being?
Wasn't trying to make one in particular but since you asked...

I think the quality of the end product is much more important than the methods in which it is arrived by. Be it written by AI, human, or uplifted frog.

I don't think AI is good enough to write interesting stories yet and I wouldn't use it in my own writing... but it might be one day. ?

But regurgitation of slogans doesn't do a lot for the anti-AI cause. AI slop has become a very cringe phrase. Better to use words and arguments that have more substance than relying on an ad hominem attack.

You were quite clearly making a point here, so put away with your fake politeness there. You are hardly the smartie sunshine yourself believe to be.

Secondly, the person hardly merits any effort to reply the same way they gave us none. So why should I bother? And for what purpose? You never convince one on the internet anyway. It is a waste of time.

Thirdly and dated memes aside, your use of slogans and empty platitudes such ‘ad hominem’ is noted. Even if it is evident that you have no idea what it even means.

Such eloquence ?. Ad hominem means a personal attack instead of addressing the argument. See how you are doing it here? It shows a shocking lack of confidence in your own position when you just attack another person. And yes, some of us here are old.

You clearly care and bother enough to keep posting about it. Either way, I have no illusions of changing your mind but people reading on often take note of how each proponent of a debate conduct their arguements and you are doing no favours for your position.

But I am not a "smartie sunshine" like you I guess.

:blob_neutral:Obviously, you care as much as I do. And that from the very beginning.

What is interesting, though, is that you have nothing better to offer than ad hominem. You do not care about arguments. Hardly.

Your first counter with a meme slogan. Not an argument. A polemic attack, at most.

""Say the line Bart."

To be fair a lot of human written content wastes people's time too ?"

The followed by a cheap justification despite supposedly valuing substance and debate. There was no substance or debate. No argument was addressed. You can say that I had no argument to begin with, which you can do for sure.

Anyway, neither of us in under any delusions here, so I will leave you the last word.

Nah, I am good. I put my justification above (AI might become good enough one day) which you just skipped over so you'd just skip over anything I posted here.

Anyway, Rick Sanchez would get absolutely wrecked in 40k. Hot take.

I just think people power scale Rick too high. He literally made the Central Finite Curve so that he would be the smartest person in every universe so it skews people's how good he is as he is acting in a universe where he is the smartest. When he moves to another universe, his actual power level drops hard.

yes 100%

But it is a comedy work, not something serious.

If the OP wants to make Rick the troll of 40k, then let them. It is no different than many other novels where the MC is OP.

It isn't like he is trying to make Rick go up against Mr Rogers or something =P
