Doesn’t have to just be from SH!

What interaction have you had with a reader that’s left a positive impression on you?

I’ve had a couple of readers say that they’ve recommended my story to friends or that they kept thinking about a chapter way after they read it and that sent me to the mooooooon; I was THRILLED lol

Any interaction is positive. Even the nasty ones (unless they post something utterly irrelevant) because it means they read it and actually thought about it. And even if what they thought was "What an arse. My intestines could write a better story after a night of heavy drinking!" they're still thinking about it...

Though long before I was online, I wrote a piece that appeared in our college's literary magazine. It was a little piece, kind of an extended joke (inspired by the play "Waiting for Godot" - essentially, it has God and Satan arguing about whether humans exist; Satan believes we do, but God is skeptical...) written in about ten minutes, with another five to format for submission and turn it over.
The first copies were delivered to a class one of my friends was in. Someone read the story out loud, and the class spent almost three times as much time as it took me to write discussing it. Halfway through the discussion this friend noticed the name on the piece and told me about it later that day.

I couldn't believe it when I heard from one of my readers how they found out about my story because people on another author's Discord server were discussing about it.

I appreciate it when readers provide feedback in the form of responses, criticism, or suggestions. Some readers have corrected my grammar (I'm not a native English speaker). Some readers have analysed the origins of my character from a real-life figure. There are also readers who appreciate my novel. I am grateful for any feedback they provide. All of it can help me write a better story. Thank you to the readers who continue to follow the journey of Mama Marry El Rose with her little daughter, Caelan El Rose. Best regards

One reader seemed knowledgable about a topic I was going to dive into in a later chapter, so I PMed them about it, and we still chat every week.

On another site, I have a reader who tends to leave especially positive comments. One in particular made me feel amazing:

As I have come to expect. Excellently done. Your writing is clean, and the plot is tight. [ long part where they asked me excellent questions about the story ] I look forward to further chapters. I check my home screen at least once a day. Unrealistic, I know but... This series has become one of true favorites. Thank you for your time and talent.

Really energetic rants you second guess yourself, and then shortly realize they were so hyped that was why they are like that. Coming in close second was when a reader defends your story. It really warms my heart.

I always have a soft spot for my random troll who used to comment every mass update about how it never made sense that an uber-powerful character would remain in custody when she was clearly powerful enough to escape. Nevermind that she was treating it as gathering information because it wasn't like these strange people couldn't actually hurt her and it had been like... a day since she was woke after being thrown in a dungeon.

Like, this guy commented the same thing every mass update. Didn't do it the last time so I think they finally found a new hobby.

Outside that, there are a few fans of SfAL that always like brain storming what is going to happen in the story. Which often spirals into discussions about Dragon Age as it's based on that. These people have stuck with me since I started writing it back in 2016 and have suffered through my sporadic posting and are always a joy to see that they're still with me.

Theres a couple I could say. All of which are over on fimfiction since nothing I've ever posted outside there has gotten any attention at all. But the one that comes to mind most of all is someone once made a full like, analysis of the first chapter. I've had other people who I thought liked my story more probably, but I absolutely adored just having someone think about the story so much. I treasure it to this day. It was written like an english essay, just kinda going over the themes and tone in a way I dont think anyone ever cared to before or since. Extra special since that was for the story Birthright which was unpopular even there, and that was in fact the only comment I ever got on that story.

Other than that, I've had a couple consistent fans of Empire of Mercy and the ponyfic I wrote before that, Princess Spike, which consistently made me smile. It wasnt anything in particular they said, just the consistency of them showing up. It feels wonderful to know theres somepony actively looking forward to reading more of my work. Even if, hehe, its in the story I kiiinda think is the weakest example of my writing.

Most of the comments I get are bewildered? But the best one would be when they messaged me about how they loved the way I write and that the words are use are beautiful. Which was really motivating because my priority is quality over quantity and work hours on editing. So that message reminded me why I do it.
