The choices were taken from the main genres available for authors to choose from. Three picks at max, no vote changing, and please note that if you pick fantasy, that means fantasy, not being isekaid into a fantasy world. Okay? Also, choosing LitRPG, doesn't mean it has to be fantasy LitRPG. I am just curious about what genre you like to read.

If you are up to share WHY you like your picks, please do so. Thanks in advance! Plus, I'll start:

  • Fantasy
Because it's the best, and I will die on that hill. I just love the possibilities. Sadly, I think the genre got poisoned by isekai stuff, and now fantasy means some mediocre, manufactured slop. (Yeah, yeah, I am also writing one, you could say, but I dare to imagine it's not just another slop because I have that much confidence. Otherwise, why would I get a complainer every week or so, crying it was not what they expected? Boohoo.)

Anyway, I am rambling. I like old-school fantasy, and no, not Tolkien fantasy, but more Dungeons and Dragons fantasy. Or dark. fantasy.

  • Sci-Fi
The second best is literally fantasy in space—science magic. The same stuff applies here, as I rambled about in my previous point.

  • Slice of Life
I am a sucker for a good fluff read. Just give me some cute characters and interactions, and I will slurp it up like ambrosia from the tits of Aphrodite.

Fantasy, coz I'm a sucker for Narnia, Middle Earth, and Hogwarts-type of fantasy works, especially the lores behind the places and events.

Isekai, coz I'm always perpetually fascinated by the clash of Earth tech, and common sense, vs. otherworld cultures.

Harem, coz I enjoy it. I don't think I need to elaborate on this. ScribbleHub is a writing site, not a court of judgment. Horny? Nope, I can keep my urges in check; no need to read horny stuff. Lonely? Prolly. So what? Incel? Yeah, I'm one...or do I? And?

What about supernatural? Is that a mistake, or did you exclude it for a reason?

Putting supernatural aside for a moment, mine would be girl's love (ideally with proper romance, but if I have to limit myself then I'd specify it's GL) because duh, and horror because I like terrifying stuff (so long as the scare is not the point - why I'm not a fan of most horror movies).

Fantasy, alot of room for creativity and exploration. Basically you have unlimited power which means it can be as unique as you can make it. Stuff like historical fiction doesn't offer as much freedom

Sci fi for the same reason, but I just like Medieval stuff.

Mystery. It makes me think

I didn't sniff the glue. I ate the entire three gallon drum.

Fantasy: Because I love creating universes, magic, powers, fantasy races, cultural dynamics, and all that stuff.

Sci-fi: Because I love creating universes. I wish the entire genre wasn't defined by Star Wars and Star Trek. I'd like to see more Foundation Series like reads. I am writing a space opera but am not sure if that is enjoyed on Scribble-hubs. Seems like everything is isekai, wuxia, and litrpg.

Comedy: Because I love a good laugh. It's so hard to find writers with a comedic tone that when I do they are ussually loved. Though I ussualy preffer comedy as a relief or undertone rather than being overt.

Others

Fanfic: Burn them with fire is the way I used to feel. Now I've acknowledged they can be good and give fans a way to further explore a universe they love. Still not for me but I might find something.

Romance: Yes, as the subplot or subplots though. GL/BL/HetL/Harem just fall under types of romance and I accept all of them but seek none of them as the lead theme.

Mystery: Best as subplot material. I don't like crime mystery anymore. If you can skip to the end of the book and understand everything then it has been done wrong.

Slice-of-life: If it has comedic elements or is a character building section of a larger story, yes. Otherwise, not really for me. Pure slice of life is like watching someone make coffee, eat cereal, and go to work making widgets all day.

Horror: I like psychological horror. I also like horror as one of the sub-plots. I like fantasy horror and Eldritch horrors. Not a fan of cabin slashers.

Isekai and Reincarnation: I'm Conflicted. Overdone but I still enjoy it when the previous life has relevance to the new life or setting. I like Isekai and litrpg themes in fantasy as long as the other elements are done well and interesting characters are forced to adjust to change.

Drama: Isn't this simply the foundation of all literature unless it's pure slice-of-life or pure smut?

GB: I like to see this explored as an element of dealing with change and it needs to be more than window dressing.

Sports: I've seen good stories, I guess. It's just, I read books to get away from our sports based culture.

Smut: Not for me.

Comedy - because I know how hard it is to write (I cannot do it consistently and intentionally, ever) and can really appreciate well done humor.

Horror - Not exactly sure, especially after hearing some writers discuss why they liked reading and/or writing it. One thing is that with horror, you do not know you will have a happy ending, and even if you do, odds are the survivors will be "scarred" in some way as a result (or that "happy ending" is for the monster, not the victims, like in the movie "Fallen").

Fantasy - the earliest stories I remember hearing (and then reading) were, assuming you ignore nonsense poems like those of Lewis Carrol or Ogden Nash, The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings (Dad read a little bit from one book every night after I was born, finishing shortly after my first birthday, and then repeating when I was a little older; and later The Hobbit was the first full-length book I ever read).

I also forgot to cast a vote for Mystery - I rarely seek it out but usually enjoy it (especially if the writer actually includes clues that the reader can solve along with the hero, rather than, say, holding the "ace card" out of view until it is used to solve the mystery)

I have an odd relationship with Science Fiction - I love watching movies and TV series in the genre, but often find novels set there boring unless they cross over into another genre (like Piers Anthony's "Phase/Proton" series, or Douglas Adams's Hitchhiker's Guide series). I have the opposite relationship with horror - huge fan of books and comic books in the genre but generally not that interested in movies and only slightly more interested in television shows of that type.

I do like stories with supernatural elements, but, as is pointed out earlier, those usually crossover with something else - Urban Fantasy, Horror, Humor... Interesting, though, that two once-huge genres (Spy, Western) are nearly absent from ... well, everywhere, and that Action (which kind of includes both) does not appear.

Now we need a companion poll to see what people like to WRITE... (though I recently realized that, no matter what I set out to write, unless it is smut - and even on rare occasion even THAT follows suit, usually into High Fantasy if it does - eventually "morphs" into either Horror, High Fantasy or Super-heroes)

I mostly like hard systems.

Super man can leap tall buildings in a single bound. (Hard system)

Spaceships experience time dilation when they get close to the speed of light. (hard system)

When someone's strength is greater than X then they've surpassed what would be possible for a normal human. (hard system)

I kill things and numbers go up, not sure exactly what than means but it is good. (Soft system)

Magic is focus and intent. (Soft system)

Different genres can fit into these things. Like I thought Hail Mary was an amazing novel. I also thought paranoid mage was an amazing novel. Really the only thing that the two have in common is very hard boundaries about what can be done and what is impossible.

I only consider them aspects of a story, but GB(trans) girls love and romance are the go-to trifecta. Other than that I love me a fancy mystery but I haven’t actually looked at the tag all that much. I also like big magic/power battles in pretty much any form

Since SH splits those two into three, I choose those three. But I really feel they are the same thing. I mean, Harem and Smut are different variations, (derivatives??) of good ol' Romance. So yeah, straight romance is my favorite genre. Why? I don't really know it myself. Probably because I can experience romance by proxy? I am not sure, since a lot of time I don't self-insert, but I look at the characterd from the side, and have this warm, fuzzy feeling when they show signs of affection.

Drama - I grew up watching shows where kids get switched at birth, or Guy impregnates his mistress. Although I hate it, I keep coming back for more. My masochist ass huhu~ TT_TT

Fantasy - I'm always amazed by other people's imaginations. If I'm gonna suffer reading/watching another drama story, might as well read one where there are lightsabers in it.

Slice of Life - To heal my mind after discovering that Emilia was actually the biological daughter of the Wilson Family, and that her mother is actually the mistress of the Wilson Family Patriarch, whose wife was actually having an affair with the Family Driver. Which would mean Angela is not actually the Young Miss of the Wilson Family nor is she the heiress of the Intergalactic Wilson Industries.

See? I was extra psycho(logical) here :blob_shade: Okay, I give you that one, I usually count that within horror.

but Fantasy Sports could be interesting.
Let me introduce you to Blood Bowl.
