For some reason I've lost all appetite for fiction (both writing and reading). Of course I still enjoy it but it's no longer as fulfilling as before. I don't quite understand wht state is this where fiction as a whole become more bothersome than satisfying.

Even more exhausting is how I keep reaching out to it bcs of how integral a part it is to me. It's not about changing genre type or what not or not enjoying it, it's more like... It's no longer as fulfilling as it used to be. And I don't quite have a thing to replace it with for now.

What to do?

My personal answer is I dive myself in my reality, University stuffs and all, then I will again realize why I love fantasy than reality.

I strongly suggest getting back into the classics of fiction writing and give them some solid reads. Fiction today isn't the way it used to be and it's not as fun anymore, I can tell you that. Everyone's trying to do something similar to everyone else and it's made things stale. Open up some of the classic novels of the 18th and 19th centuries and try to imagine what people back then must have felt reading it. it certainly should re-invigorate the fiction lover inside you. ?

Actually, when I started to write I lost most of my interest in reading other fictions. It reduced my interest in more than 80%. When you're too immersed on a topic it will become uninteresting for you someday.

Do it with moderation, vary with other hobbies. It's like a cow that produced too much milk and now is struggling, you need to respect the time of each hobby. For me an occasional novel every two weeks or writing a little here and there is enough. If I do it too much it will become boring.

I usually take a few days off without thinking too much about it. Then something usually happens in my daily life and I find myself thinking about my characters and their plot, and at that point it becomes urgent for me to get back to writing. But I realize that I am a lucky person :)

You're probably right. I guess the major problem is I keep forcing myself to like it when it's obviously needs a break. Thanks for this

Thnk you for this but my reality is even more boring nd will probably worsen it. That's the major issue. I'd love to touch grass but the grass in question is stale ?

Thank you I will also try this.

Solid advice. I have been pressuring myself with coming up with a novel idea and everything is going blank instead, ?

Kitty, go help beginning writers. Go teach them how to edit too much dialog. not info dump. show don't tell. When you help other writers your passion comes back. Remember: "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach."

teach until it comes back. that's what I do.

Try doing something else. Try reading new genres or older books. If that doesn't work, then you can just take a break from both activities and come back later.

I stop thinking of my characters in the plot and just imagine random slice-of-life scenes. It can be stupid, noncanon, or just nonsensical but it usually helps me relax and stop worrying about genre. It's like watching a group of friends interact.

I've never lost my passion for fiction, just my time to read it or write it. I have occasionally lost my passion for specific types of fiction (had a huge "The Destroyer" phase but was bored by the last two books I read in the series; occasionally feel the urge to read or watch a lot of Star Trek then burn out after a few days of massive consumption, etc., and run hot/cold on comic books, manga, etc.) and my dedication to role-playing games is on a downswing at the moment. But this is a cyclical thing that I know I'll get through.
