Stuff on the toothpaste tube says
"What does Doramad do? Through its radioactivity, it increases the defenses of teeth and gums. The cells are charged with a new vigorous life energy, which inhibits bacteria in their destructive ability. Hence the exquisite prevention and healing effect on gum diseases. Polishes enamel to the softest shiny white. Prevents tartar approach. Good foam, new taste, pleasant, mild and refreshing. Use extensively."

And on the other side it's"Special biological healing effects by radium rays. A thousand times medically prescribed and recommended."

Funny back story

During the German military administration in occupied France during World War II, a group of German scientists stole all the thorium they could while in occupied France. The Alsos Mission thought they were using the heavy elements for the refinement of uranium to be used in an atomic bomb. However, after Allied agents captured and investigated a German chemical company's representative, it was revealed that the scientists were not seeking to develop an atomic bomb at all; rather, they were attempting to make thorium toothpaste.

According to physicist Samuel Goudsmit in a 1947 issue of Time, the German chemical company's officials had realized that, at the end of the war, they would no longer be able to make money producing wartime equipment such as gas masks or carbons for searchlights, and they decided cosmetic products would be their best option for future sales. One of the company's officials already had a patent for thorium toothpaste (likely unrelated to Doramad) and, influenced by marketing for Pepsodent "irium" toothpaste in the United States, the company sought to gain a monopoly on all the thorium they could find in order to produce as much thorium toothpaste as they could after the war, which led to the company's scientists stealing all of France's thorium. The identity and fate of the chemical company, the fate of the stolen thorium, and whether or not the thorium toothpaste was actually produced after the war is unknown.[4]
Kind of related(in the sense of weird shit that was consumed in food, drink or medicine)- I watched a program on food in Victorian England, and one of the things they did was add borax powder to milk as it masked the sour flavor from spoiling. Milk was primarily for children. Unfortunately, it does such a good job of masking that the children were being poisoned by the rotting milk(though I am sure the borax was a non negligible factor as well).

Also learned that as 'white bread' was preferred, plaster of Paris was added to the flour.....

This is a thread for people to share what interesting things they've learned today. It can be anything from introspective philosophy to finding out that you're not a normal person. I'll go first: Today I found out that not only do people think that eating garlic raw is weird, but I also found out that Taco Bell (Destroyer of colons and remover of 90's aesthetics) has been considered the healthiest fast-food restaurant in America for years and Chipotle has topped it this past year.

The luggage American Tourister Twist Waves has a different method to reset the lock.

Hint: when you can't find the reset button at outside, try locate it inside the suitcase.

Ps. This wisdom did not came from me who was fumbling. It came from someone older and travelled more.

You can change the temperature of the air flowing out of your mouth by changing the pressure .
Info dump:-

This happens because pressure is not directly proportional to heat if volume is not constant and as the volume is not confined, increase in temperature and kinetic energy would have made the gas expand. So, the gas takes up a larger volume and hence, the number of effective collisions for any given instance is less. (Ask me if you want me to make this a simpler explanation)

Soviet Russia demolished the cathedral Christ the savior to build the largest building in the world 'at that time' only, as soon as they got started an army invaded and they needed the steel for the war effort. So it never got finished.

My mom is an avid gardener- use to have her own landscaping business, worked at a plant nursery, volunteers at the botanical gardens type. I just found today that the street view photo of the house on Google maps shows her working in the garden. I was amused.

Apparently there's an university in Mexico where a duck and a cat had formed a close friendship

Today I learned my 11-year-old is a budding capitalist.

She has been making paper dolls and selling them to her classmates for 25 cents. I don't know whether to laugh or be impressed.
Start making her pay rent and tax some of her earnings

I learned that my brother's van will not allow you to hold the handle of the gas pump in a normal manner. Instead, you have to squeeze it gently like you're checking the ripeness of fruit because, otherwise, it'll act like you're stealing gas the tank is full and stop pumping gas.
