I’d be lying if I said my chocolate senses, sharpened by this 2024, weren’t tingling.
As I was saying earlier to the cultured truck, the patterns have become almost instantly recognizable, and 9 times out of 10, they’re spot on. There’s definitely something uncanny here, though perhaps it’s just bias... unlike Intergalactic, for example, which is clearly aimed at a target audience that I’m not part of.

Aside from Ciri’s “uglification,” which can be justified in heavy quotation marks, and the girl-boss “I know better than you” vibes, the trailer lacks the impact that, for instance, Witcher 3’s trailer had.

It seems like "artists" in the industry these days can’t manage to be dark or gritty even if they wanted to, everything has to be sanitized and watered down. Maybe they’re afraid of offending anyone, but as a result, the viciousness that a dark medieval world like this one should have, especially in this IP, is sorely missing.

It reminds me of how, for example, in Veilguard, they removed spiders because they scared arachnophobes... which, to me, is absurd. It makes me worry that we won’t see anything truly good coming out of the West anytime soon. The public sentiment has shifted, but the studios are heavily infiltrated by talentless freaks who only got there thanks to privileged selection methods.

Anyway, for me, at this point, I’d say it’s a hard pass, especially since they haven’t even shown any gameplay. If they can’t even put together a convincing trailer, it definitely doesn’t raise any hopes for the game.
I don't get why people are so hellbent on Ciri getting uglier and girl-bossy, considering she isn't THAT ugly and she has always been girl-bossy. What I find a lot more disturbing is the fact she became a full-blown witcher, she went through the mutation, and it breaks canon. Canon is something CDPR held in high regard before, and always followed it, with the exception of Yennefer.

The way I see it, more than complaining about changing Ciri (though there are definitely important issues with that), the Witcher is now getting much more suspicion just as collateral damage from all the conflict with woke, since there's a lot of similarities between the trailer and a number of games and other media that have already been roasted. However, I'm sure if we got the exact same trailer about half a decade ago, there wouldn't be nearly as much complaints.

The canon is probably a victim of that conflict as well, but to people who don't know the story that well it isn't nearly as noticeable.

It is really sad the only thing that actually matters, canon, is overlooked because of grifters on both sides.

My impression? Oh look, fanfic that ignored canon. I've seen how that didn't work out before in an official capacity. Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Marvel and DC comics, Snow White, Buzz Lightyear. Then there's Spiderman 2, Last of Us 2, Horizon 2, Alan Wake 2, all under performing their first game by a large margin.

Won't be playing it. Took one look at Ciri, and knew the usual Leftist twitter-based freaks were highly likely involved in creating the next future flop, or at least it will under-sell compared to Witcher 3.
I'm honestly shocked they didn't show her having a girlfriend/wife somewhere in the trailer lol. But I'm sure some LGBTQ hacktivist is working on that front and already preparing the usual "istphobe" attacks and channeling their inner I'm-The-True-Victim-Here mantras for when they get pushback.
Also, Ciri being a full-blown Witcher is bullshit. I bet they'll bring Geralt back just to kill him somehow. NOTHING is sacred to these kinds of people.
I expected nothing less though when I learned the true talent for the studio left, and the usual suspects replaced them, most likely through the same usual hiring stupidity practices.

Ive never played witcher

A damn DEI intern accidentally slipped and shifted Ciri's eyes, nose and mouth upward lol. There's no space between her eyebrow and eye sockets (it's either that or they pulled her whole jaw down)

Does witcher training involve mewing? I wish I had her mad mewstreak

Yeah, a while back. I hear he's working on another one.

Why? Is there something I'm not remembering?

I didn't read all of the short stories and I didn't read the prequel that came out in 2013, Season of Storms, but I read the others. Everything from The Witcher to Lady of the Lake, 8 of them.

Ciri was a lesbian in books. Doesn't take away any of the other points you made though.

I definitely don't remember that. But it's been more than a decade since I read the last one. I didn't Season of Storms in 2013 because I thought it was too late to be bringing a so-called "official prequel" out. The timing seemed meaningless.

But if I'm wrong there, then I bow out and admit so.

She had a relationship with a girl from Rats gang. Initially a guy from this gang wanted to sleep with her, but I think Ciri was afraid of him? I don't remember the exact reason why she didn't sleep with him, but the one who 'scared' the guy away and took his place was the girl from the same gang.

Ah. Okay. Well, I remember Rats gang and Ciri being there. I'll take your word for it on the rest.

I may buy the game six years later when it costs less than 10 dollars.
The only games I buy at higher prices these days are ones that I think I will enjoy thoroughly, like Space MArine 2

No.

If I couldn't discuss the game adaptation of the fantasy book written by the Polish author 30- years ago without referencing current day American politics, my Internet senses start tickling ...

TO be fair, this discussion has been rather civil. You might be the spark this thread needed all this time.
