So, basically in my novel. I have this idea that I'll have the MC's love interest be brought back, but as someone different, with some semblance of who she once was
Context
The MC, Ethan, is trying to bring back his love interest, Kim, from a Coma (Called the Mana Disease), where her soul, while tethered to her body, becomes a monster in the Tower of Madness, and he's trying to make the potion to save her.
He does recognize that it's her, just without her memories of being Kim, and keeps her safe the entire trip (also learning a bit of lore about her), and so after he gets the potion and says goodbye to the alter ego, he learns that if he uses the potion to save her, she will change to the version of herself he met in the Tower of Madness and that alter ego will be the primary personality, but that Kim will still know the memories of the original Kim, just to her, it feels more like memories implanted into her instead of experiencing those memories herself.
And of course, Ethan still loves her even if she is a little different and he still confesses his love for her and since this new Kim felt the same both in the tower and with the memories because Kim's crush on Ethan persisted in both identities, she accepts.
So, this keeps the weight of what the mana disease does while still giving Ethan his love interest back
(Note: This isn't specific to her, everyone in the world goes through this soul transform thing and come back similar)
So, what do you think?
I'm still debating if I should do it like this.
