What are your thoughts on anime/manga with anthropomorphic animals?

I often see that in Manga/anime animals are often anthropomorphize, if I am to give some examples then think about Cat girls, dog girls or monster girls. They are often
sexualized. It's not that I am against it but I never understood the logic of it. I would to hear what others think about it.

From my perspective it’s like soft core furry: not particularly interested in furry, but since the partner is mostly human it’s ‘okay to try’.

Moreover, I’ve seen that in Japanese works any and all fuzzy, fluffy, poofy, or similar beings (humanoid or otherwise) are targets for petting. With anthropomorphism, it provides that petting value with a romantic/sexual partner.

Beyond that I’m not too sure.

Anthropomorphic characters in comics and animation are really really really old. Crusader Rabbit, like, the first animated TV show, is about an anthropomorphic rabbit. Alice Comedies (starting with Alice's Wonderland) one of the earliest Walt Disney's productions is about a girl and an anthropomorphic cat. They have been there since the beginning. And now we have Bugs Bunny, Spongebob Squarepants, Mickey Mouse, . . .

As for comics . . . Well, one of the first was Korky the Cat and Rupert the Bear and they predated Superman. Many favorite comic characters are anthropomorphic.

They have been here for longer than that. Folk Lore, Fairy Tales, Mythology.

As for sexualization . . . Let me guess, you consume mostly anime/manga that are targeted to adults? Then there is no mystery here. Sexualized is the norm, not just for anthropomorphic characters.

They have been there, like, forever.

Isn't it because of perception of humans and animals? Humans put up walls and masks, animals once you break down the initial cautiousness of an animal, they tend to be true to their instincts. So it is easier to break down portray affection.

So an animal girl would start cuddling to the MC or be fine with being enslaved as a pet because that is our perception of animals as humans. You often times even see human girls represented as an animal to bring out their natures.

Effectively, what they want isn't to be a furry, but simply having a girl who is open to them and honest to their natures. So they add a few animal ears and a tail while still keeping them human and still keep them human and give then animal like natures.

I just like seeing multiple races in a story, catgirls and stuff are nice because they add a different dynamic to a story with only humans in it.

That's all there is to it to me.

Humans are boring. I don't wanna be human. They're gross and fleshy and they want you to pick up your dry cleaning at 9. I'd rather be a catgirl and laze about
