For me, it's Common sense but we all know I am asking for too much.

So I go For Charismatic leaders, I am so hard for the likes of Roboute Guilliman, Captain Steve Rogers and Optimus prime

Resilience, but depicted in a better way than half of a chapter describing, "I suffered excruciating pain for 72 hours, but I survived in the end."

Contradictions. I don't particularly care what's being contradicted as long as it feels natural. A character who has all of their thoughts and feelings perfectly sorted out doesn't feel real. Real people are a mess of emotions and opinions that don't always mesh together, and fictional characters should be the same.

First is something commonly liked; competent characters. They don't need to be good at everything, but they need to have at least one thing that they're really skilled at. It also has to be something that has importance to the story, so I can see the character is useful and not a burden.

And this is a personal preference, but cautious characters. I dislike reckless characters who make random assumptions and have zero patience. I like characters who take their time to check their info, and are always open to the idea that they may be wrong. I like characters who don't take stupid risks, or at least properly weigh them, who prioritize keeping what they have now.

Of course, they don't have to be like that all the time. Faced with emotional turmoil or limited time, they may also fail or act recklessly. They just have to be competent and cautious most of the time.

ROBOUTE THE GOAT MENTIONED?!!!!!!!! IN SCRIBBLEHUB??!!

But back to topic, I like when the Mc is secretly caring for their loved ones. Like Kratos, or Joel (from TLOU).
Father type Mc that are willing to fight even the mightiest of gods for their sons & daughters are THE best type of Mc.

Drive. A goal they care a lot about so that I care a lot about them. There's this weird trend imported from Isekai maybe where the MC just wants to hang out and be left alone instead of having a clearly defined goal they're struggling toward. It started as a clever subversion, I guess, but now there's so many of them that you could hardly call it that anymore.

Anti-heroes.

No one wants to read about another "yessir!" boy/girl scout with uncompromising morals. Real heroes should have flaws which affect them every second of every day. Narcissism, underdeveloped EQ, talks too much, famous gangster, these are just some traits that I like to use.

My favorite characters to write are ones that are supposed to be villains but are actually heroes in their own way. The type which believe "the ends justify the means."

I imagine I'd appreciate anti-hero mcs more if they didn't always act so cringe.

You mean the whole "no one understands me" teenage edgelord goth femboy socialist vibe? Yeah, I'm with you there.
