Legos or action figures are the safest choice. Tho I remember playing with shitty mcdonalds toys or something that plays one shitty game but that lasted me like a year or two when I was six.
Now I'm feeling nostalgic for my old yoys.

A fake Playstation console called a Polystation.
It was definitely no Playstation, but the god-awful bootleg games on it had their strong points...

Probably beyblades or Bakugan but those were received later on when my family could afford it so my most memorable or favorite which I still have somewhere to this day is an ironwood stick that I whittled into a sword when I was 5.

i used to buy those for my niece but she made such a damn mess with them. Do you give in and give him real liquids and food too?
Yes, and he spills, but we clean it up quickly. I'm never far from him, so I keep an extra tea towel handy (in addition to the one lining the tea tray) and point to it so he can get it and clean up his own mess.

I cut the end of an extension cord off, plugged it in and rattled it around in a metal trash can. It was like making my own sparkler! Well until the lights turned out and I couldn't figure out why.

There was a Winx little figurine of Stella, it was very cute. Never watched the show seriously, I did dig Dark Bloom and Darkar.
Doubt you'll be able to find it though, it came from one of those candies.
What else... A Nokia 3110? Your kid will love it
My grandad had a toy train, but it was incomplete. Like, an entire railroad and everything. I'd buy it myself now if I wasn't against such frivolous spendings.

Not sure if it's the exact Nokia you had, but I got an old one from my cousins. I could play Tetris on it. It has stopped working now, but it was fun to read my cousin's old texts.
