Most things have pros and cons when comparing them.
When comparing them to a range of others, it can be an even greater list for both.
Pros
- You can include details that might be otherwise overlooked, or unable to display easily, such as inner thoughts or misunderstandings people base their assumptions and actions on. If you ever wonder why in soapies they have people turn their backs to others and their faces change expressions until they turn back, that is how they show the characters real emotions and not the façade they put on for others
- You can much more easily use the "unreliable narrator" trick.
- You can go through it at your own pace, or even stop for a bit.
- You can imagine the character's as you want, not being stuck with how others portray them.
- If it's an actual book, you can look at it latter!
Cons
- You have to sit down and read it, so no doing other things at the same time.
- You need an imagination to fully enjoy them.
- You have to be able to read, and considering the education systems today this is a major issue!
