I recently realised by checking my post history, it looks like I never introduced myself on this forum?
Hi! I'm Cloé, but most of my friends call me Clo.
What is there to say...
Let's start with this: I'm been reading stories from serialised fiction websites such as this one for over two decades. I remember when a lot of my favourite authors started mentioning moving away from the site they were posting to start posting here. And I followed them (people like Kathryn, Quietvalerie).
Around the Covid lockdown era, I wrote a few chapters of Neva. Which was fun, and that story was a turning point for me. But sadly, I lost steam at some point, and it's been years now, and I don't think I have it in me to pick it back up. It did what it was meant to do (For me), so I struggle with picking back the pieces and salvaging it into a proper story. Part of me wants to include the protagonist, Neva, into my newest story, because there's a LOT of overlap between the two stories and the games involved.
I wrote a few other things over the years, but most of them never went very far. One story, called Alya, was about a boy taking hostage by the Fae and turned into the princess of their kingdom's familiar. And Shiv, a story about a neurodivergent Super-hero with Mind-reading powers. They're on my hard drive or shared with a few close friends, but they essentially don't exist, will never get finished, and probably won't be shared.
After years of not writing (except for two short stints writing for videogames -- I made a demo of a Strategy RPG like Fire Emblem/Shining Force, and a Visual Novel set in the Battlefield universe of all places), I have started writing again!
But instead of pantsering my way, this time I decided to plan! I spent an entire month creating a thorough GDD for the VRMMO my characters are playing in State of the Art. That was August 2024. In late September I started writing. Then suddenly NaNoWriMo was upon us, and I kept writing. And then December happened, and I kept writing...! And now I have a sizable backlog, and a story that is apparently pretty good, according to readers? At least, what few readers I have.
Anyway.. What else is there about me?
I love 3d printing and making 3d models. I mostly design custom storage solutions to sort my stuff better for my growing collection of board games (my favourite genre are deckbuilders)
I am a game designer with 20 years of experience in the AAA industry, but I'm also a programmer by education.
I'm from Quebec, so French native speaker, and English Second Language. I now live in the PNW and moved away from Quebec. Winters there are COLD.
I'm actually trying to go back to university to take Creative Writing classes, because I'm sure I can learn a lot from those. Since I'm totally untrained and uneducated as an author
I love cats, and dogs scare me. I currently have two beautiful ragdoll brothers, and used to have a nice tabby Siberian cat.
I've recently fell into the bottomless abyss that is The Wandering Inn, so I've been listening to that a lot lately. Mostly when I drive.
I've never caught COVID as far as I can tell.
I draw sometimes! I'm not great at it, but I love doing it. The cover art of all my books are done by me, and the art of my indie game also is.
I think that's Cloe in a nutshell!
