Seizing copyright from an author is so horrible. It's like taking a child from its mother... the novels we write contain our feelings, experiences, trauma, love, and even our hopes for life... and they're trying to take it away in the name of a contract?! This is modern slavery.
It's standard for new authors though - used to be, the best way to get "in" with a publisher was to write something in a series they owned, under a "house name" - get enough sales, they take a chance on your original work (and you have some clout to negotiate some control with).

Their contracts have a stipulation that you can't disparage them in any way, and that disputes will be mediated by a court in hong kong. Keep both of those in mind as well. That makes it hard to trust anyone who currently has a contract with them's comments on the matter, since the chinese are notorious for controlling speech and strong arming people.

Edit: be sure to read all the fine print thoroughly. Especually penalties. They could, hypothetically, take money back if you failed to meet some deadline etc. This is speculation on my part, but you should always read every single line and fully understand it before you sign legally binding contracts. Especially where money changes hands.

if I want to make some quick money by writing a slop
99% of webnovel is literal slop tbh. I've checked and it's either shittily drawn manhua with shit stories and pacing or pure slop in written form. I almost had a mental breakdown reading one. There's like 5 or so novels there worth reading and you can just pirate it instead.

Yeah, I know that. But what exactly is the scam? Payment not matching expectations? Copyright misuse?

Because if it’s just that, this might actually be an “okay” option for me if I want to make some quick money by writing a slop
.
Be ready to make pennies for writing thousands upon thousands words each day. They also control all the rights over your work, and there is also a chance of your work not getting noticed, if that happens, you would just ended up loosing right to your book for nothing.

Also, I don't know if they changed it, but even if you didn't applied for a contract, you can't remove your book from the site.

Do not accept any contract from webnovel without first checking with others who can read the legal jargon. Too many have been scammed and lost their desire to keep writing because of it.
But WN without a contract is fine, right?
I have 6k views there, but here, 600 views...a big difference. I'm thinking of continuing my story until it becomes popular(hopefully)... then starting a Patreon for some income.

Ultimately, we must distinguish between exposure and contract. Getting exposure by placing your novel on multiple platforms is a common strategy. Many SH authors release their novels on other platforms. However, signing a contract is another matter because it means you hand over "control" of your fiction exclusively to a platform. It's like to make you to be a slave of the platform.

I am confused are there two people of the same name. Also (duck - love) stories although they are weird sometimes.

On Webnovel, you can refresh the page and get 1 or sometimes more views per refresh lol. Try it. Open a chapter and refresh.

Yo, remember me... Man, thanks for helping me before, like the first time.

I know I was ignorant, but now I understand my mistakes. Thanks again for the help. And another thing, I rewrote my first chapter in a normalized way... and all thanks to you... bye.

Webnovel without the contract is okay. Though they do somewhat shadowban authors who refuse to accept their contract by making them harder to find.

I do agree with most of what was said here, but when it comes down to "being a writing slave" I cannot 100%, since in theory its the true, but they do not really care themselfs. If you are not G3 and writing Shadow Slave, nothing will happen if you do not post for months.
