I heard from my friend that in the monarchy era, Vietnamese government exorcised ghosts and haunting places by deploying their cannons and launched a barrage until everything turned to dust.

Is it true?

What an interesting way of getting unrest spirits to move on, don't you think?

Yup.

Fear stems from the lack of/ not enough firepower.

Bless thy firearms before deployment.

I have never heard of this, do you by any chance have a word for it in Vietnamese so I can do research? Most exorcism that I've seen and most people would associated with are those stereotypical old Asian scammers that have amulets, papers, fire, third eye, purple and stuff.

What my friend told me is that during the Tay Son dynasty of Vietnam, the king's army travelled through the land. When they asked a village for shelter, they were told the village would help them as best as they could but the village chief advised the king to not go to the abandoned house near there since it was haunted and many attempts of exorcism had failed miserably, indicating the ghost was powerful. What the king did was ordering his men to line up their cannons and started blasting at the house.

After that event, it was never haunted anymore.
