in another kind of venting, a self vent, we present this cromulent meme:

(readers, this one is not for you)
It is only "procrastination" if you only work on the other novel(s)... Otherwise it is "The Asimov Method" (though I first heard of Piers Anthony doing it, he learned it from Isaac Asimov - if you have enough works in progress, if you hit "writers' block" on one, you will be able to pick up another and work on it...")

Yeah. The Asimov Method is the goal, but it sure hasn't been working out that way.

Writing a story where your MC is an expert in a field, means that you have to become an expert in that field to write correctly.

In 2 languages, since your are ESL

I'm currently reading a 17 pages pdf with all the technical terms and their english translations. I want to bash my head into the wall.

More it means you need to know enough to fake it.
I have a character who is an expert in several types of advertising, where I have slightly more than zero experience.
I have two characters who are programming experts, and my programming knowledge is about 30 years out of date.
I have characters who are cops, and I know very little about police work.
I have a character who is a beautician (and almost an Organic Chemistry expert). Know almost nothing about that.
Have a character who is a nurse, and I'm married to one, so can check that out when needed...
You just need a grasp on the jargon and to not get too deep "in the weeds" discussing what they can (and can't do)

The problem is that she needs to do something specific for the story, something that must pose a challenge, so that the resolution later can be more impactful. But to know what she is struggling about... Well, I need to know how the whole thing works. And I might know a little bit about this in french, I've touched this industry before, but in english it's so much more complicated ! Like... I can search the translation for this very specific technical term that I know, but in english there are two ways to say it, and they don't mean the same thing !

So, yeah... Hurray for the pdf...

So, you lot ever encountered those types. That jumps to conclusions, complains about plot holes, character actions, etc.

When all they have to do is pay attention to the clues, read more to answer those questions, etc. Ya know, like a proper story. That or even worse, they get their answer literally in the next section they read? Or it was right before the point they complained? :blob_popcorn:

Impatience and or lack of reading ability, you can see why people joke about stuffing everything in the first chapter. ?

To the dumbasses that think my "fights are way too long", learn to have patience you fucking retard, I'm not going to start an epic battle just to end it right away in the same chapter. Seriously, some readers want instan gratification and whole arcs in a single chapter. They cant just FATHOM to wait for the next chapter for a conflict or fight to continue. MAYBE just MAYBE you shouldn't read ACTION novels of youre such a pissy baby for not wanting to see ACTION.
Instant gratification, this has been going on for years now. I’ve seen that complaint, some of the battles I have done is pretty long.

This isn’t something that can be gotten around to tell a proper story.

Conflicts extends pretty far. Book 1 for instance, you are introduced the main antagonist in Chapter 1.

The main encounters them in the current timeframe in Chapter 4.

In Chapter 14, 18, 19. There are some past scenes that answers what happens at the start of Chapter 1.

Connecting this with the other information, it sets the ground for the true goal between the main antagonist and the lead.

The second battle in the current timeline between them is in Chapter 23, they work together in Chapter 24, and the finale(25) concludes with the last battle between them.

With the ending concluding on all those the main positively affected coming to their aid to defend them against the Magi’s.

This long build up was all leading up to the powerful finale.

The second longest conflict in this book would be a former knight.

This timeline is within the first half of the book, and very important towards the lead’s development. It ends in Chapter 13.

The next one would be from Chapter 14 to 18. Given that this world is warn torn, things are gonna extend for a while.

Longest chapter for this book is 18. It is like 20k words long.

I just wish some magic scribe would pay us for releasing books. Free work can only be generated for so long...

Finished another chapter and scheduled it.

Now I'm sitting alone at my desk, wondering if I'm doing things right and if my story is evolving in the right way. Confused about if I'm a good author, if people will like my work, if the 'emotional growth' of the character isn't just a pretense to avoid diving into some issues.

And in 1 hour I'll be alright again and write another chapter. (I know it because I know her, she is me)

That part will always be there. Especially the more your story gets noticed. After more than half a year of keeping my rating stable, today, I dropped another point lower thanks to another negative rating. :blob_drool:
