Obviously this thread is gonna be about music playing in the background of a story to set the mood... No, not at all. I just think it's fun to listen to otherwise boring things such as court hearings, congressional debates, and Senate hearings with lofi-style soundtracks playing in the background. Currently listening to an Appellant case against the department of human services with super Mario Galaxy music playing in the background. The doom soundtrack was playing in the background of the recent Congressional gun law hearing for me. Do any of you watch boring stuff with wildly inappropriate background music?

Okay, watch something cool with inappropriate music in the background. For example, MMA but with beach music.
Why would I want to do it? I want to hear the commentary properly. I'm not a native-English speaker. With all the jargon and thick accents, it's sometimes hard to understand what they are saying. And if it's in my native language, I also want to understand and hear people talk. And sometimes, they do have background music. Why would I suddenly start listening to another background music of my own choice? To not hear anything?

That is fair.

Bro, you're listening to that stuff and NOT using Phoenix Wright soundtracks? Missing out, my guy. XD

On a more serious note, I don't have the time to watch boring stuff, but when I have to do it for class or something, I always play soundtracks from when characters die or super bright Jpop/kpop music. The former because it makes me emotional enough to not blank out from boredom, and the latter because I like pretending I'm at a fun cafe instead of in a dreary office room.

And yes, I play it on speakers.

I have a question in return. Why would you want to watch something boring? Personally, I have so many things I'm interested in that I don't have time to watch all of it. Are you not the same?
Mainly, I watch it for classes but some of it interests me because it could affect my rights as a citizen depending on what is proposed. Other much cooler stuff interests me but I still want to know what my own country intends to enforce on it's citizens. Sometimes learning is boring but those that know more from it are better because of it.

I was expecting you are going to say this. If I had to watch something boring yet important, I won't listen to background music. Again, I want to understand and catch every innuendo; why would I make it harder with a soundtrack from an anime or a game? Well, whatever, we are different and blah-blah. You got my answer, and I got yours. We can call it a day.

Agreed. I need background noise while you don't. There is nothing wrong with either and we are free to enjoy our differences. Because despite modern collectivist theory, we are all vastly different.
