Hey guys, been literal years since I've been here. Between the homelessness, the drugs, and barely surviving, I've put some stuff out but few and far between, with more works in my google docs and unreleased than I have published. I find that I start projects all the time, but can't finish it. Due to recent life discoveries I've realized that motivation is a false god and discipline is the only thing that counts. I have a set universe I've worked on building for months that was based off a D&D game I tried and failed to run as a DM. Not really sure what it is I'm asking for, maybe just advice, or a bit of Conversation to get the brain cogs moving again. Also, what's everyone's opinion on combining sci-fi and fantasy in a space opera theme? Lots of inspiration from Star Wars, Warhammer, and D&D as a reference. Combining fantasy races and magic with sci-fi tech both in the genre as well as literally, with magitech being real and all.

Hi. Welcome back. You can mix anything with anything — any genres. Feel the freedom of thought. I just can’t seem to stay in one genre. Always somewhere in between

Except for the homelessness and drugs bit you sound almost like me (add in "superheroes" and "horror" and change "months" for the D&D based world to "since '82)...
The best motivator is to really like some or all of your characters and WANT to write about them (and, when they get boring, that is often the time to move on to a different one.... though, to be honest, my most recent motivator is a potential contract for one or two stories with PocketFM - and that has kept me away from two of my favorite characters to play with some of my "second tier" favorites).

As for combining things... well, the first thing I ever had published was a mash-up of H. P. Lovecraft and the movie The Warriors for a superhero Role Playing Game...
And what I have here - the Jack Diamond series (noir + superheroes + horror), Strange Awakening (Superhero/gender bender/kind of isekai but not really, urban fantasy), True Blue (Detective story + superheroes ... kind of anything goes), Digital Cowboy (Science fiction, Isekai, Western, Adventure - also on PocketFM as Digital Cowboy Dane) and Between Worlds (High, Dark and Urban Fantasy - also on PocketFM as Between Earth and Pyrroth - with Pyrroth being the fantasy world I've worked on and off developing since '82)

I'd like to see more of D&D kind of fantasy rather than another isekai/ lirpg.

Ai-chan only has one advice. You don't need actual friends to play D&D with. Chatgpt can be your friends, all 5 of them.
