This is a bit of a rant but I can't find any stories on here which are engaging and most of them are genres which aren't to my liking e.g genderbender, fanfiction etc, and I do use release filtering but still can't fully get rid of the slop

I do find a few diamonds in the rough but they are mostly on indefinite hiatus or are updated really slowly. I'm tired of seeing so many AI covers without even titles on them, it's not hard to learn to add a simple title bruh

There were stories I did enjoy reading which were consistent but they run out quick. Where do you guys even read your stories and how do you manage to navigate through the slop webnovels? I might just write my own webnovel cuz it's that bad. I have these problems with other sites too like royalroad and webnovel

Dude, this is the place mostly for fanfics and smuttys. If you cannot find the stories in the genre you prefer, you can either lower your standard and enjoy some interesting slops or write a story yourself. I do both.

shameless self-promo here, but if you don't mind a bit of smut, my stories are plot with a seasoning of smut, rather than smut-focused like some others. I've had a fair bit of positive feedback from my readers, too. They're all original fantasy adventures. Lay the Dragon and DragonBound are more dragon focused, A Succubus' Love is on hiatus, but it's left off at the end of an arc, not in the middle, as most are. And Fractured Bonds is my current work, which started as a furry harem, but kinda went more toward an abused child, grown up and coming to terms with it.

You haven't specified if you like smut or not, and that's mostly what I read on here to get a feel for what's missing and what's popular for my own stories. But I do have a few that I read that I could recommend, if you'd prefer something outside of my own works.

Honestly I currently just read chinese webnovels. They are pretty unhinged, but really funny/entertaining if it's your cup of tea.
The translations can be a bit bad though.

The only way to avoid slop is to stay off these free sites and buy published stories. On these free sites full of hobbyists and amateur writers, it's just something you'll see.

yeah. Webnovels tend to run the full range from illegible to masterclass. Sadly, more of them tend to air closer to bad as they're free to publish, so anyone with a keyboard can post it. That said, my goal is to earn a living from writing actual novels. My works posted here are rough, definitely, but publishing is the end goal, so I hope it's at least a little above the dregs.

Yeah, make Corty trend again! It would solve this issue.

What? I didn't post this on my alt praising my own schlong? Damn it…
What!!! You can't use an alt to self-promote! I will only trust a long-standing community member to not be an alternate account! Someone like @NotCorty, an upstanding SmutHubber who absolutely isn't an alt and who absolutely has no relation to @Corty! Aymdeed, someone like them could promote Corty's novels without triggering my alternate account senses!

There are well-written stories but it usually falls under the categories 1. the author isn't updating and it is deleted/abandoned/on hiatus or 2. the author monetized it/plans to monetize it and you only have a limited period of time to read through it before it gets stubbed.

I feel your pain. Finding something "good enough" is not that hard, but actual diamonds are as rare as... well, diamonds.
As you say, not enough of the actually good stories get finished, and most of those that are not abandoned outright, either get stubbed or removed entirelly once the author gets a publishing deal, usually through Amazon.
By this point, everything I was reading on RR is in this category, with the majority in perpetual hiatus, with one exception that is updated irregularly at best.

The first step to navigate the slop, is to recognize common slop titles, and by extension their covers. Something that emulates stereotypical Chinese or Japanese titles too hard is usually cultivation/isekai/litrpg slop. Something overly ambitious, grandiose or edgy is a red flag as well.
Similar applies to synopsis, which also gives a better indication of the overall writing style, grammar, etc.
It's never a guarantee, but it helps.

"I want to read online literature well known for being hurriedly written and mass produced without much quality to it but it HAS TO HAVE QUALITY AND BE UP TO MY HIGH STANDARDS!!!" stop being a retard and just buy ebooks on amazon if you're like that bro

Tbh yeah 90% are temu anime slop and I don't read them. I meant more stories like Lord of the Mysteries and diary of a crazy Lich, wich are pretty good imo. but the exception.
