The comedic undertone is kinda leaning on this like self aware/meta jokes, like the main character actually Aware he's in a story.
5 chapters in actually.and i did give like this foreshadowing in the earlier chapter about the true nature of the world that my main character lives in.
It all comes down to the execution; but yes it can work well, especially with the foreshadowing set up.
Personally, I'd recommend building it up in layers, with foreshadowing as far back as the first couple of chapters. Nothing overt, or obvious, but present and ease the audience into the shift from the protagonist's perspective before a secondary "Inciting Incident" shatters the protagonist's delusions and thrusts them into the darker side of things.
That may just be me though, so take it with a grain of salt, while layering the moment with some of the character's self-aware commentary to maintain the comedic undertones you're working with.
That could just be me though; so take that with a grain of salt, if you will.
Ultimately, it's your story. Tell it how you would like it; but you can be sure that the combination can work when done well.
