You know, I don't mind them at all as an author actually. If we're talking about the system Scribble Hub has. Even if a reader puts your story on their "reading list" and never reads it, it still has the potential to catch the eyes of others who may be searching through other people's "reading list." It might be minor but a bit of exposure is better than no exposure.
As a reader ...well I'm sure just looking at my various 1/XX would tell you something. But then again because I have them on my list there's the chance someone could search through my reading list and be like "huh, I didn't know this exists

" and find something they enjoy out of it. There's been a couple of times to date that I've searched other authors' reading list and saw something that looked interesting. So, I placed it on my read list. Will I ever get back to it? Maybe not but just the gesture of spreading the exposure to the scribble hub community is just fine with me.
I don't expect all the "readers" I have to be actually reading the work I make. That's unrealistic. But there are various stories that I see that certainly need exposure and I'm sure just the act of showing an increase in readership puts a smile on the author's face.
