When I was a kid I loved the idea of time travel. Though what was so interesting was relativity and the theoretical physics that explained how it worked. After reading a lot about it I wondered if you could alter your own mental perception of time and use it to speed up or slow down your own state of time. I tried a number of experiments with this subject growing up. Though one experiment that I tried felt like a subtle superpower. By altering my own cognitive idea of time I was able to slow down my perception of everything around me. To me, I was the fastest thing around and everyone was moving at close to half their normal speed. Many people would say that I was finishing things incredibly fast but I felt as if it took forever. a few minutes to me was only a single minute in reality. Is it time traveling? No. Is it super-speed? No. All it does is alter your own perception and make your body work at the rate you want. I've also learned to make everything go by super fast but I usually get remarks on me being slow when I do because I haven't figured out how to keep my body moving at the same pace as what I am perceiving. Anyways, I wanted to know if anyone else had tried something like this and succeeded? It took me several years to figure it out but maybe someone out there has the mental control to learn it quickly.

I’ve done something similar before. When I woke up each morning, I would slow everything down, like literally slow down: my movement, my breathing, everything. It’s similar to meditation, but it’s not. Instead of being aware of my inside, I was being aware of my surrounding. I would take my time looking around slowly, observing everything.

It’s quite a success, really. Nothing outrageous. Not really to the point of being called a superpower.

What I found was this: I became extremely calm. My senses heightened. I could perceive the minutes details of my surrounding better. My focus improved a whole lot. Oh, and yes, things did become slower—not that obvious, but noticeable enough.

It was a nice experience. It makes me become smoother and more efficient with everything I do. I learn quicker. I notice every subtle signs when talking to people. I perceive people’s emotions better—almost like reading their mind. I find getting in the zone easier to accomplish.

It’s not permanent, though. Just like every single mastery in this world, you need to do it over and over again to get used to it. And also, the quality of your sleep is extremely important—I can’t emphasize on this enough. Other than that, your diet, your mood, your body fitness—all of these are important as well.

I think this practice is called “being present”, or get in the zone, or something like that. Nothing fancy like relativity or time travel. I think there’s relations to it, though. Human mind is a curious thing. I’m also interested in intuition and subconsciousness.

and how do you trigger this... ability?

I force myself into a mental state of boredom to create the sense of a neverending cycle which makes it seem like everything feels slow. Then I do things as I normally would but induce a feeling of joy in whatever action I'm doing. It's really just emotions controlled to trick my brain. Though it can also be done through a system similar to a meditative state but that takes too long.

In a way, how you described it is very similar to how it feels for me. I think that it's different for everyone who would try it since some personalities would make it difficult. Though I'm glad it's not just me.

What's the full word "arous-?" I'm thinking arousal but that doesn't seem to fit. Also, it's based on science... Theoretical science.
No, it's indeed arousal. because apparently greater arousal speeds up our brain's 'internal clock'. of course, it's not sexual arousal ONLY, but also all other forms of emotional arousal and excitement. you can google it for more info.

Yep, everyone’s reality is different. It stems from our belief system. I‘ve watched someone getting hypnotized before. Their reality can literally change just by the suggestion from the hypnotist.

Like, for example: if the hypnotist plant the belief that a cute puppy dog is a purple tentacle monster, then that person will literally see it as such.

“What is this, a real life hentai!?” they would say so.

Human mind is really fascinating, especially the depth of our subconscious. I explore this subject a lot, and have done a great deal of experiment with it.

Most of the time, I would ‘guess’ the correct answer simply because I feel like it. It’s like I can perceive something intangible in the air. It comes in the form of a feeling, a subtle sensation. And if I stick to it and believe in it, something great will usually happens. It’s amazing, really.

Okay, that makes sense.

Makes you wonder if mental and emotional altering abilities could truly exist on a villain or hero level. If people were to study it and find ways to speed up the hypnosis process then it could be a weapon of mass destruction that could easily be added as illegal in wartime.

Although I can’t really see it happening any time soon, I believe that it’s possible. If there’s a hole, there’s always a way, right? It’s only a matter of time before humanity turns into tentacle monsters. Kind of sad, really~ *sighs and shakes my head*
