The Price of Power and those who abuse it

My Beast Heroes series is a prime example of what happens when the wrong people are given power...

But i know mine is not the only tale that touches on that subject, many stories that involve people awakening incredible powers also touch on the premise of superiority over those weaker than you, so my question is...

If YOU had that kind of power, how would use it?

Would you use it for the greater good, to satisfy your carnal desires, or would you simply use it to feel better than others and treat them as your playthings?

The moment I got that, politicians would be wiped out of existence. Then abuse it in such a way that future politicians would think twice before doing something stupid again.

You can't. In every society, there will always be 'politics' in some form. Like, in churches, in workplaces, even within families, etc. As long as there's someone who leads, someone who needs guidance, there will always be politics.

Would vary based on the type of power but, most likely, given human nature and my own personality, use it to remove truly evil people from the world, but, like the kid in Deathnote (Light, I think it was?), eventually go too far and become a kind of serial killer to protect myself and my family. Probably would eventually turn the power on myself to stop me.

I think a lot of people, think they could use the terrible power responsibly.
I also think, power corrupts, and you don't notice it.
i thnk it happens so slow, you don't realize it creeping up.

here's a theme I use in more than one book.
the people that seek power? most of them, shouldn't have it.
seeking power, is in its own way, usually a signal of their impurity.

likewise.
people that have no wish for power.
indeed, some will even try to refuse power.
those are the people, again usually, that need to be in power.

so, look at the system this creates.
most people trying to gain power, shouldn't have it.
most people that should, either don;t look for it or try to turn it down.

its a recipe for disaster, all that's missing is a match.
and the match, is this... human nature.

This is why I am in favor of lotterocracy.
That is, people get put in power by random draw, and are forced to serve their country as a leader for a few years at a time. This means, if they sucked as leader, people will want to kill them after they get out.

You have a severe misunderstanding of what politics are. Any activities or affairs (whether internal or external) that a group engages in that involve the administration or control of said group are a form of politics. It can be as large as the cabinets of two countries discussing trade or as small as a friends group deciding to kick out one member they don't get along with. Have you ever had two friends tell you that they don't want to interact with a third friend? That is a form of politics. Have you ever had your significant other tell you that he or she doesn't want you to invite your drunk friends into the house? That is a form of politics. Ever have your parents ask you to break up with your bf or gf? That is a form of politics.

Depends on the power, but I would use it to better the world and/or make my life easier, once more depending on the power. Although if we are talking getting a Death Note, @Hans.Trondheim gave my answer. Although using the death note one can manipulate the people written in it for a while before their death so I could probably use that to ease the transition.
