Time lost can never be gained
? everyone knows time but no one can define it! ( another truth)
Try giving a sensible definition of time
Time is the fourth dimension. Pretty simple.
Are you ok dude? Don't kill yourself.
I'm super fine! I have resisted the wiles of Death for 3 years since their courtship, I think I can last until old age. I hope.

Is it as simple as that. Then what's the opposite of time
You know you can't describe light without the notion of its opposite darkness

That's like asking what the opposite of a line is, or the opposite of a cube. Or even more nonsensically, the opposite of width, length, or depth. Not everything has an opposite.

What is the opposite of a vampire?
Well, I suppose I could make up an opposite of a vampire. None currently exist, but I think this would work: a non-magical, inorganic structure that spews life-giving blood that maintains sanity and health of those who drink it, becoming more effective under sunlight.

Time is not the 4th dimension. spatial dimension assumes the universe to be discrete, like a block. but time is continuous

that is super dumb. darkness doesn't even exist, let alone the fact that the concept of light is just a convenient word for the em waves are perceivable by the human eyes.

You obviously don't understand how dimensions work. Without the axis of time, they would be discrete per our perception, but it is only continuous via our perception. If we were 4-D creatures, i.e. our body parts extended along the axis of time as well, then it would be hypergeometry that is discrete and not continuous, and a fifth dimension would be needed to count for time for us.

dude, just how? time and space is different. time is not the 4th dimension, and it can never be. time can of course be constructed in a 4d graph (cuz why not) but time is not the 4th dimension.

Girl, the prevailing view is that time is the fourth dimension. Obviously, there are dissenters and other school of thought, but that's how it's been for a century or so. So unless there is new stuff I'm not aware of (which is a possibility since I am nowhere near the cutting edge of physics) and there has been widespread change in opinion for those in physics, that's the majority opinion. Obviously that didn't explain jack-shiitake mushrooms to you, but search up Minkowski space time, and you'll get better stuff than I could put.

@TheMonotonePuppet eff the prevailing view. Einstein also took time as 4th dimension. f#ck that too. time is for convenience taken as the 4th dimension in the coordinates to refer to an event. but you could just as well take any four well defined systems to denote the same event. but that's beyond the point. point is, time is an auxiliary dimension. it's like the 0th dimension, it just exists with any space. we live in a 3d space, so we have 3 spatial dimension and 1 time dimension. someone living in a 2d space will have 2 spatial dimension and 1 time dimension. and so on. someone living in 4d space will have 4 spatial dimension and 1 time dimension. you get what I mean.

Pfffffft! HAHAHA! So... just, eff science? You haven't even pointed me to a topic that supports your argument.

I'm done... i don't have my laptop so... yeah, ig you can be right.
Well, if you ever want to send me something that helps support your case, feel free to. Your argument makes sense, but is unsubstantiated, and contradicted by the evidence I pointed to. I appreciate you conceding, though it feels more like 'done' exasperation rather than any meaningful agreement.

Time is the fourth dimension. Pretty simple.
We have used paralax out to several light years and if another spacial dimension or time and a direction of travel existed, then the universe should be either convex or concave. It is PERFECTLY FLAT. The only way that Space "Time" could be perfectly flat is that it does not curve through higher dimensions or time.

Space "time" is NOT smooth, it comes in chunks and is pixelated, like a fresnel lens.

The minimum distance you can travel is the Planck distance. If you cannot go LESS that that, then all of space time is, on a quantum level, polygonal.

If space "time" is not smooth, it cannot fold back on itself, therefore "time travel" is impossible. If you cannot go in both directions through time, then it is NOT a direction, it is only a rate of change.

TIME DOES NOT EXIST.
IT IS JUST A SOCIAL CONSTRUCT.
M-THEORY IS A CULT.
FIGHT ME.
---

If time is a direction, then how do singularities exist?

Gravity is motion. When you reach the speed of light, time stops. The event horizon is where gravity is so intense you cannot leave, even going the speed of light. Therefore, at the event horizon, you are going the speed of light, ergo, you should be frozen in time.

If time is an actual DIRECTION and not a RATE OF CHANGE, then any matter at the event horizon, or inside it, is no longer moving forward in time and from the point of view of the rest of the universe, should stop existing, because it is no longer moving into the future.

We know singularities are real, yet somehow, the black holes do not just wink out of existence.

How are black holes not all disappearing into the past, if time exists?
