Anime might be technically mainstream, but it has not been accepted in the same way things like Marvel or DC have
What I mean by that title is, everyone is always talking about how Anime nowadays is fully mainstream, and how the same people that used to make fun of others for liking anime as kids are not binge watching stuff like Jujutsu Kaisen and paying a monthly subscription to Crunchyroll, however, I would argue that even though this is technically true, Anime has not truly been accepted among "normie" circles
Only the most generic and mainstream shows, that appeal to a Western taste and have none of the "weirdness" (I don't like to call it that but that's how people usually refer to it) Japanese products are known for, and the ones that do are usually older and get a pass due to either nostalgia or people mostly just not talking about it (like Dragon Ball) the biggest example, especially when it's such a common topic on this sub, are things like fanservice, Fanservice love it or hate it is a staple of Anime and otaku culture as a whole, it's extremely influential in the medium, usually the reason some franchises are well known in the first place (like Highschool DxD for example) a huge moneymaker and common enough that it is one of the biggest things people think about when they hear the word "Anime", yet fanservice is absolutely loathed in the West (although to be fair is not universally loved in Japan either, being enjoyed by Otaku mostly) where most of the people who fall into the group mentioned above would either don't know what you are talking about (since they don't watch shows that have it) or tell you they find it gross and would eliminate it from the show if they could
It's the same thing with a bunch of iconic stuff related to Anime that people seem to hate, like Tsunderes or long winded explanations, it's just common stuff with how the Japanese seem to decide to tell their stories through animation, they are tropes that people who understand the subculture around Anime usually enjoy, but are heavily criticized aspects by people who are into Anime casually
So my argument is, Anime as a whole is not mainstream, use any Japanese title over an English one in a conversation and you will probably get weird looks, specific shows that just so happen to be Anime are mainstream, but Anime in general is still often rejected among general circles, meanwhile with truly mainstream stuff like Marvel or DC you can easily say you are reading any comic run whatsoever and while people might not care about the run itself, they won't have a negative reaction no matter how niche the title of said comic book sounds, that's because Marvel and DC have become accepted, while Anime has not.
On one hand, I agree he chose poorly. On the other hand, at least no harem ending.
She's pretty much the least insane person from this group, tho. Not suicidal, not completely useless. She's just a one-time-use nuke. Anyone smart could make use of her, but seeing the cast of Konosuba...On one hand, I agree he chose poorly. On the other hand, at least no harem ending.
Hell noI have been absent on my internship for a week just so that I can win this with my depression strategy. You will all feel bad for me and let me win this undying thread. Thus, immortalizing me for eternity as that one guy who won The Last Comments Win at the cost of his college.
That would require letting the thread die; I'm afraid it's just not possible. You will all feel bad for me and let me win this undying thread.
Yeah, like... there's literally no way this will ever end, right? That would require letting the thread die; I'm afraid it's just not possible.
