I don't agree with it, but catch phrases can be owned via trademark. However, nobody is going to come after you if you are using it not-for profit, in obscure settings, or in personal conversation.Is the use of "bau-bau" instead of "wah" is copyright free when that "bau-bau" is copyrighted and the use is nonprofit
For example, McDonald's trademarked the phrase "I'm lovin' it." which they outright stole from ordinary vernacular. But they can get away with it because they own you.
Also trademark works differently than copyright, a catch-phrase can not be copyrighted.
