I got hooked on drawing in 2013. I was 12 years old at that time. I watched Love Live School Idol Project, and immediately hooked. I watched Animax, Disney Channel, CN, and Nickelodeon. When I watched LL, I just whoa, never watched an animated series like that. The colour, the character, etc. So I wanted to draw those characters as I fell in love.

This was my first attempt to draw.

After that, I drew some characters, but based on what I saw.

I saw some posts on a Facebook group, that some artists scanned their drawings and lineart digitally. So tried that.

I saved my allowance to buy a pen tablet. However, 14-year-old me didn't know anything about a pen tablet, so I bought a Genius Pen for $40.
And it was dissaster, I couldn't draw anything with that Pen Tablet.

I didn't use that pen again.

Later, my sister wanted to buy me a new smartphone, yet I had a phone, a Samsung Galaxy Mini, and I was 14-15 years old, which was still good. So I told her to change the phone with Wacom Pen Tablet. She bought me the Wacom Pen Tablet CTH-490 with Clip Paint Studio Key. At that time, I didn't use CSP. I am still using that Pen Tablet until now.
I just fell in love with the Pen; it wasn't like the Genius Pen.
Fast forward, my drawing was about anime, or maybe trying semi-realism in sketch. So 5 years ago, I explored different styles.

It brought me to more concept art and character design than illustration. With this exploration, I didn't feel shy about style. As I looked at every drawing, every character art, somehow I could see behind that drawing. What is the story of this character? What is the personality of the character?
My exploration of line or style 5 years ago was to train my perception to visual, silhouette, personality, and color. Now I didn't see art or drawing as just good and bad; I would say and think everything about that drawing in design language.

Glen Keanne and Jin Kim are my main references and inspirations for character design and concept art.

So what is the journey of your line?

I started drawing around the age of 3, doodling trains and planes. Just the usual kid stuff. Of course, I'm not really dedicated to it, but my mother supported my occassional drawing spurts.

Fast forward to 1999, when I was in 5th Grade. For some reason, I tried to draw anime-style, after the afternoon anime show I watched from TV. Tis from memory, so from then on, I knew I have some knack for drawing stuff.

But I was never serious about drawing. 6th grade, then 7th grade happened. By 8th grade, I dreamt of my characters (even those unwritten ones) singing and pleading to 'draw' them. So, from then on, I dedicated myself to drawing.

Tis was around in 2001. Net is still young, and my references are How to Draw Manga tutorials from Antarctic Press, and a few independent website I can access via dial-up internets. I haven't save the earliest samples of my drawing, but I got the oldest drawing I have from the year 2004.

However, my years 2004-2008 weren't easy. I got someone I look up to as a rival, and I'm foolish enough to treat everything as if I was in a competition. Those years are full of despair and the desire to prove something about myself. So, I kept on looking for ways to improve my style, and eventually realized what I lack: the "professional" look for my illustrations.

My solution? I took an artist I look up to and emulated their style. I know it's quite questionable, but that artist's style and my techniques eventually merged to form my own improved artstyle, which showed in my drawings from 2008 to mid-2010s.

I graduated college in 2009. I got accepted in a teaching job around 2013. The years 2013 to 2019 was what I call my "drought years" where I rarely made illustrations because of busy work schedule.

My artstyle I worked so hard for suffered, and by 2019, it was so bad that my heads are bigger than my characters' bodies. Despaired during those times...

But, I bounced back in time for the pandemic lockdowns of 2020. The isolation brought by Covid gave me time to focus on drawing and writing, and it was also the year I discovered this place.

From free commissions, I now earn money in doing covers for fellow authors.
This is my style nowadays...

Yeah, I also do watercolor paintings.
