I personally find the best way to write a harem is to have characters grow into the romance and not be star crossed lovers or a one sided obsession.

But then again I have always been a fan of historical fantasy, and political marriages scratch a certain itch for me.

Particularly the ones that grow into the people loving each other.

As someone who's been here since August 2020, I've seen lots of degenerates people come and go in this site.

So no one knows the exact numbers. What I can tell you is that, there are people who love and hate certain genres here (like me who hates litRPG), so I advocate laissez faire.
